People stop blaming the thieves, blame the authorities who do not provideproper security for the tourist. I remembered as a youngster growing up, a lot of tourist use to and is still visiting Morne Fortune. There was a time when people started robbing the tourist there, so the authorities saw it fit at that time, to place a policeman or rural constable there every time there was a tourist boat at the ports, that alone stopped the robbing. So i believe before Chastanet and Mayers take their joy ride to miami to lobby, as they called it. They should use that money to provide proper security in place in St Lucia for the tourist. This is not so difficult to do, just train men with the SSU to secure the country, its citizens and visitors. That will also cause much needed employment in the country. It does not take a rocket sciencetist to know that.
It's really surprising turn of events when St. Lucia's economy will soon be based on Tourism Industry. I remember when "green gold" was king and St. lucia was thriving. There was several calls and studies for the diversifcation in the agriculture industry in St. Lucia. The best result was a move towards the cultivation of Cashew Nuts. The study found that Cahew nuts could be incoporated with the bananas and they could thrive side by side. The only drawback was that cashew nuts took ten years to produce it's first crop. "Green gold" greed was too high and the then UWP government could not wait that long for the pay-off. So the idea was shelved. With the latest news coming from the EU regarding the WTO, it looks like bananas production or exports from St. Lucia will be a thing of the past. And what we have left is St. Lucia "The Legend Lives."
Zapon, do you think it is a hard task for the government to provide security for the tourist? I believe instead of these ministers travel overseas mostly every day, they should stay home and secure what we have already and that is the country. I frankly believe that is not to difficult to do.
