Well written Mr Springer. A definite eye opener. In an effort to expand on the topic, I will bring to light an issue which gets little or no mention. A proceeds of crime act needs to be mobilised ASAP. Those who are found guilty of crime for money situtions need to be stripped of their ill-gotten gains. This will send an uncompromising, clear cut message to the 'God father' figures of St Lucian society. Week in week out all we see on YouTube is homicide 3, 4 ,5 ,6 ,7,... still being investigated in St Lucia. Those who believe that they are unaffected simply say'let dem kill each other'. The truth is they will kill us too, if not with stray bullets, we will die economically. You Mr Springer hit the nail on the head with reference to us being a reactive people. So true, sad but terribly true. Rehabiltion of offenders is key to the development of our 240 sq mile rock. This is an issue which is also viewed through the eyes of dinosaurs. I refer to those people who are physically in the 21st Century, however their minds remain in prehistoric times. Do we look at the root causes of crime? Do we understand the criminal psyche? In most instances we never do, simply because we do not care. Which takes me to my next point. St Lucia seems to have lost its sensitivity. We no longer care. Someone falls and breaks their back and what do we do? In true Looshan style a chorus of 'hee-shall hop' is echoed long before we tend to the person who is not only physically damaged but now also humiliated. These days all we care about is whether or not our 'pardner' at which-ever bank will 'set us up' with a loan that we cannot repay, to buy a Q7 or a Range, so that we can drive up and down the highway to see who is watching us drive our, well the bank's new ride. I look forward to more of your articles Mr Springer, because it is with views such as yours, that the salvation of our island state can begin to take any shape. Thank you and compliments of the season to you and yours.
Be part of the solution otherwise you can say whatever the hell you want and it won't mank a difference. Everyone seems to criticize but why don't You create some jobs? Jobs...Jobs...Jobs...
There should be no crime in St Lucia today because people use to say that crime was caused by Kenny and it is three years since he is out of office and the crime situation is worse. This government come into office because they say they would have solved the crime situation, but instead their own ministers are found guilty of crimes themselves. So how do we expect the crime situation to improve in St Lucia?
As a recent tourist to the windjammer landings in st lucia. I agree that you need to address the situation.Although a lovely location and many very friendly staff, we had a really awful ordeal at this hotel in December 2009. My husband and I were held at gunpoint in our room whilst being robbed. We were then left gagged and tied up. The hotel was very slow to rescue us and had not alerted the police when they did finally arrive. We meanwhile are left traumatised and left with unhappy memories of your beautiful country.
