There are six regional accreditors: Middle States, New England Association, North Central Association (NCA), Northwest, WASC, and SACS

There are also program accreditors. This is needed in some professions and "good to have" in others but is in addition to regional accreditation. These include AACSB, NCATE, NASM, ABA, AMA, etc... and only apply to the specific program in the college. If A college isn't accredited by AACSB, their business school is not worth anything. Is Monroe college's business program AACSB accredited. If not, their business degrees are a joke.

Competition? Two schools on a small Island is not competition. So what if they are for profit ? A non-profit school will never come to St Lucia. Non-Profit schools are comfortable where they are and would never see an opportunity to come here.

The more educational opportunities our people have the better off they will be. We can continue to hate on Monroe College, who has been around for 77 years and has 4000 students outside of St Lucia.

All they would have to do is donate everything, tear up the lease and Good Bye St Lucia. They would not even skip a beat. I don’t even think they are even making that much money in St Lucia, for the same Degree tuition is EC 9000 less per semester.

We are just making ourselves look stupid by asking these accreditation questions 3 years later. We have telephones and internet on this Island; we can look these things up ourselves. I don’t even think some of us even understand the concept of accreditation.

Monroe has 7000 students not 4000 get it right.

Monroe College is a fully accredited higher learning instution.

Why, which private college is not for profit?

My son attends Monroe (Campus in St Lucia). I am happy with the school and its curriculum. At least his BBA's degree will be accepted in the US without questions, should he decides to seek (better) opportunities elsewhere; as there is none is St Lucia...

Further to my previous posting, I took the liberty, for those uninformed, or who are maliciously spreading rumours about Monroe and their accreditions to check the following United States Department of Education. A list of all their accredited Colleges and Universities.

LET US BE CIVIL AND ACT ACCORDINGLY NOT LIKE SUPER MORONS.

I am a curent student at Monroe College who transferred from one of the local institutions of higher learning. The reason I transferred is because at the other institution, I felt I was being set up to fail. At Monroe collge, I feel like I am being set up to succeed. I am not just a number, I am treated as a valued asset of the college, like I am being trained for a successful career, that administrators and faculty care.

Competition?. If the local institutions are so concerned about competition, why dont they step up their game- introduce new, innovative programmes and courses? When was the last time a new degree programme wa introduced at our Hallowed tertiary local institution? Sour grapes? Umm!

Dwayne Browne, according to you, "If A college isn't accredited by AACSB, their business school is not worth anything"...in effect the degrees granted by the University of the West Indies is worth nothing; because they are not listed.

Other famous Collges and and Universities not listed on the AACSB; WESTCHESTER COMMUNITY COLLEGE (White Plains, NY), CENTENNIAL COLLEGE (Scaraborough, Ontario, CANADA), (prestigous and sort after: YORK UNIVERSITY, Ontario, CANADA)...are you therefore telling me those colleges and universities are not worth their salt.

For your information, the Human Resources Managment programs provided at Centennial College (Ontario, CANADA) is so superior to most of your AACSB's colleges that after graduating from this program, and upon writing the HRPA (Human Resources Professional Association) exam, if successful, one is granted THE MOST SOUGHT AFTER HR DESIGNATION - CHRP (Certified Human Resources Professional)...

Further, this CHRP designation is not only sought after in Canada; but the world over; and yet Centennial College, York University, both from Toronto, are not listed on your AACSB website (which your provided).

Please let us inform people correct with facts.

I hope I have enlightened you in some ways. Cheers...

Don't forget to watch the News tonight. This year Monroe is giving the Science Fair another $15,000. Lets talk about that.

In the age of globalization, I want a degree from an internationally recognized institution, not a "college" from NY that no one knows about. I want to get my degree from a top 10 university, not the mediocre 1 yr degree that monroe is passing out. St Lucians who study there are LAZY and do not want to work hard and study hard for a degree that they will be proud of and will be accepted ANYWHERE in the world that they wish to work...

In the age of globalization, I want a degree...",March 22, 2010 12:10 PM

In this age of globilization, one does not need to travel to physically attend classes to get a degree from any world class univerisities. The following ten top universities all offers online studies/degrees:

Yale University
Havard University
Oxford University
Cambridge University
McGill Uninversity
University of Toronto
Princeton University
Colombia University
Duke University......to name just a few.

You are talking about globalization, yet you failed to appreciate and acknowledged the fact that one has to only be in a room and the world is at their finger tip.

I do not know your circumstances, but I rather suspect, if you are from St Lucia, it would most unlikely for you to attend any of your said "internationally recognized institutions", reference list above.

These banks don’t have any money to send the average St Lucian to a top ten school. Monroe is my Harvard. Thanks for giving me an opportunity I would never have. Use your resources to achieve your goals. My parents don’t have a big “ Name” and "Top 10 School Money"

In the age of globalization, the cost of going to Harvard University (top 10 school) for a year is US $47,215. Times that by 4.

Monroe College Leave St. Lucia Now !, Come to St Kitts we will appreciate what you are doing !.

I am just getting ready to start my programme with Monroe College St Lucia, as a transfer student from Antigua and Barbuda. I did two (2) years of studies at my local college, Antigua State College attained an associate degree and is now going to finish my degree by doing doing online classes and the last semester in St Lucia, are you people telling me that my studing with Monroe College St Lucia I will be wasting my time? I beg to differ, the cost for me economically is way less instead of going to United States of America. I think Caribbean people on a whole have a bad habit to redicule anything that happen in our islands. Kudos to Monroe College St Lucia, you will be seeing more Antiguans and Barbudans at your campus.

Micah George need to do a follow-up story on Monroe. Trouble is brewing but they are covering up. St Lucia needs to know what's going on.

I invite all bloggers to check out these stories about Antigua and Barbuda Hospitality Training Institute, ABHTI. Many of the issues discussed in this article seems to be going on at the Antigua school which is tipped to be the OECS hub of hospitality schools. Please read:

I am a current student at monroe college, and i must say that in no way i believe that the level of education Monroe provides is watered down. We have some of the most qualified tutors out there and most of them are in there field of work that they teach. I believe that there are lots of caribbean countries who would gladly accommodate Monroe and what they are doing, and to see that monroe offers full scholarships to locals yet they are being ridiculed this must is really heart breaking. Monroe all the way!!
