I would say if only 25% of our people would only look at politics in that light ,oh what a beautiful country that would be.

Mr. George there is a comment on Luciantalk.com under 'entrepreneurs' that says just what you have said here. It goes one step further.

It goes on to explain why St. Lucians behave the way they do. For the sane among us, it does not give us much comfort.

The St. Lucian is a very flawed human being, as you have just pointed out. Other countries will gallop ahead of us while we hold up some extremely vile, despicable and flawed characters as worthy of leadership of this poor country.

What you have said there exposes the illusion of sham and facade that we call independence. This is especially so when the person who grasped at the fiction of independence with the trappings of anthem, flag and a constitution is NOT TRULY A ST. LUCIAN AT ALL.

Therefore, we are not a nation. People are still devoted to their parties and what that can mean for them. THEY ARE NOT EVER COMMITTED TO THE WELLBEING OF THIS COUNTRY BEFORE EVERYTHING ELSE!

This my friend is the litmus test. We fail it every time. That why we tolerate jailbirds, ex-cons from the US prison system as a foreign minister. We have the gall to tolerate this and put such persons to represent us on the international stage!

Every time I think of this I want to puke! I want to change my passport! I want to be somewhere else! I hate myself for being born in such a country!

This is all so tragic! The St Lucia I remember was not so insane as this. It was not perfect but it was not perverted like this picture implies.
I have lived in England and Canada and found them to be stupid voters too; and now that I'm living in the US I find them the dumbest of all, and the country is in a mess as well. I am beginning to think that there is something fundamentally wrong with so-called democracy.
In ancient Greece/Athens - where we're told democracy was born - slaves accounted for 50% of the population and only adult male Athenian-born citizens were allowed to vote: that would mean that only between 10 and 15 percent of the total population could vote.
Is this what we want for St Lucia? Or maybe a dictator, or worse yet, go back to colonialism?

Good article. More of us should pay attention or more of us will be publicly humiliated by our government.

Thanks for a well written article and for a current example on how the wool can be pulled over the eyes of the young ....our nation's future....so sad

At least most St. Lucians have not operated under a false identity, and did jail time in a US PENITENTIARY while considering ourselves prime minister material.

At least most St. Lucians still have a moral compass and not get involved in the deadly narco-business and parade real goons on tv as worthy of emulation by the young.

At least most St. Lucians have not been so bold faced as to lie before an Appeals Court telling it that we did not know that we were at a meeting granting illegal concessions to a cabinet member.

At least most St. Lucians are not there selling the very private medical records of their patients for money.

At least most St. Lucians have not under-invoiced goods being taken into the island and sue the government and replace the customs officer after the matter was brought to light.

At least most St. Lucians did not have a cover-up about the death of John Compton.

St. Lucians may not be perfect, but we have unrepentantly elected scoundrels, scumbags, slime-balls, shills, and charlatans to represent the country. St. Lucian politicians in government today make me want to vomit.

You mean with all the scandal Kenny faced office and others still dogging him in opposition, "unfit" men can only be found on one side of the political devide?

Anonymous before me, YOU ARE an example of what Micah is talking about. Party party party.......my word take the damn wool out of your eyes and realise that NOWHERE IN THE WORLD YOU WOULD GO AND ANYONE WOULD GIVE KING CREDIBILITY OVER KENNY ANTHONY.......NOWHERE. For people like you I say fear has gripped you badly; the fear of losing your job, the fear of losing YOUR PARTY IN THE FIRST PLACE IF YOU HAD TAKEN THE TIME TO EDUCATE YOUSELF IN ORDER THAT YOU BE SELF RELIANT YOU WOULD NOT BE SO DEPENDANT ON YOUR PARTY. How could you do that to your children and your children's future? Unless you too do not posess even a basic education to be objective. We need good governance in our country Saint Lucia and if we the citizens do not start to make the necessary changes somewhere, I am afraid we will get the GOVERNMENT WE DESERVE!!!. LET US ALL VOTE WISELY FOR GOOD GOVERNANCE, TRANSPARENCY AND ACCOUNTABILITY!!!

@ anonymous' 9 & 11; you both are so, so, so very right in your arguments. Only in St Lucia you will find ex-cons parading, no less, as foreign affairs minister; et al, at the other ills in this government.

This "gang" cuz a gang it is, has no moral compass.

They knows no shame; blatantly and at midday, in the full view of everyone, they will commit a crime!! (not literally - well, in a manner of speaking, yes; the repercusion of their stupidity and bobol affect the entire island).

The likes of Fredericks, Mondesir, Asene James, Chastanet makes me puke!!

The writer of this article is of the notion that most St.Lucians don't do their own thinking; and that the politians do it for them.

But the truth is, St.Lucians are smarter than the writer is giving them credit for.

For example, St.Lucians know when gas prices go up on the world market, there is very little any politian or political party can do. They also know when there is a recession in Europe or in North America that fewer tourists will visit St.Lucia.

So, these are just a few of the reasons that St.Lucians are not quick to kick out their elected officials when things seem to be going badly. They are a thinking people.

Micah who you think you fooling with that article? Not me son. You playing you unbias and neutral but we know you are a closet Labourite. Micah, you can write what you want but it's the people of Anse-la-Raye, Central and Choiseul who will decide whether they want Mondesir, Frederick and Tucker-Bousquet. It's time you so-called journalists stick to journalism and leave voters to make upo their own minds who they want to run the country. Who cares about your opinions? Not me, son.

St. Lucians are smarter than the dumb politicians they elect to their parliarment?

What a load of bull!!!!!

Explain jackass, HOW COME THEY HAVE EX-CON FROM THE US PRISONS AS A FOREIGN MINISTER?

Explain again jackass, HOW COME THEY HAVE A KNOWN, WELL KNOWN DRUG BARON AS A CABINET MEMBER, AND THE PM is the only person on this whole dam island who does NOT who that Cabinet member is?

You are a propagandist or one of just two of SOCIAL MISFITS voted by ignoramuses in Choiseul and Castries!

Only a people without morals would do such a thing like this.

YOU MAKE ME PUKE!

Anonymous said...

Hey Puker, take some Andrews Liver Salts, or Tagamet or some antacid. You kian keep on puking so!

#16 you moral pigmy see you in Bordelais. May they finesse your backdoor for good measure.

Anonymous said...

#15, your feathers got ruffled and your true colors came through.

You are nothing but a foul mouth, thin skin Labourite with a mission to unseat the present government. Good Luck, you idiot.

Anonymous said...

Drug baron, I hope the police make target practice out of you!

Micah, thank you for EXPOSING Spider and his sheenanigans and SHAMELESS LIES!! The STRUCTURE OF THE OECS AUTHORITY says as follows: "The OECS Authority is the highest decision-making body of the Organisation. The Authority comprises the Heads of Government (Prime Ministers as well as the Chief Ministers and Premiers) whose policy decisions direct the work of the Organisation as required. The chairmanship of the Authority changes every year, rotating alphabetically by country. The OECS Authority meets twice yearly, and from time to time in Special Session as and when required." So, if JOOK BWA was our Prime Minister, he would be OECS Chairman this year. SHAME on SPIDER!!!!! That's why he will NEVER become a Prime Minister. TOOF!!!! Sister Donna. Check out the LINK: http://www.oecs.org/about-the-oecs/structure-of-the-oecs

What do you expect from a cabal of cabinet ministers who colluded to give a cabinet member illegal tax breaks?

What do you expect from this same cabal, when a US JAILBIRD is part of their company, who sat in a US JAIL for fraud?

What do you expect from this same cabal, when a member who is a doctor sold his patients private medical record for profit?

What do expect from this same cabal, when an unelected member, SEEKING A SEAT in Soufriere, LIES UNDER OATH, saying that he was not present when the illegal concessions deal was under discussion, but the records of the cabinet meeting shows something different?

What do you expect from this same cabal, when a prominent member directs the sale and rubbing off young people involved in drugs? The only person left on the island who does not know who this person is, is the prime minister of this country.

What do you expect from this cabal, when a member of cabinet under-invoiced goods coming into this country under his name, and was jailed for this, had the spineless prime minister removes the customs officer to a desk, and the cabinet members goes to sue his government?

What do you expect from this cabal, when the foreign minister receives aid money on behalf of this country but the money winds up in a private bank account?

UWP is a kleptocracy.
