Earl, this is a very good observation and I appreciate the seriousness of your tone. I hope persons who complain about crime are awakened to the graveness of the problem and how big it has become. you claimed its has worsened over the last 15 years. I am agreeing with you that the approach to war need to change. I from my end am happy that you mentioned the crime by pro's and bright fellas. Another unfactored set of criminals are those who play a blind eye especially those who do it for gain or to find favour with the politics(civil servants need to pay attention). Another group are those who marginalise and victimise to cause stress and frustration to others - causing them to weaken to the evil options for their own survival or as a way of rebelling. Near these categoeies are the role models who publicly do awful things knowing that they can get away by virtue of their privileged positions which you alluded to. Others follow when the opportunity arises. Earl i support you on this and the war tactic must be a national committment to spades being spades. So a teacher must possess a certain quality of discipline, a priest/pastor must be holy, a revenue officer must be trust worthy, a civil servant must be non- partician at work, a police office upholder of the law and public protector (not the criminal) etc.etc.etc. Please don't tell me that I must come back to the real world. The size of the problem deserves a revolutionary response and that is to include responsible citizenry in terms of behavioural change and statesmanship. The situation has gone too far to respond only with 'sherriffs' as we knew it in those days - trust me I would be afraid for them. Good article Earl - keep writing.

The mentality of the SLP was give the criminal the benefit of the doubt, when the government was over their head and the US embassy in Barbados wanted to put an advisory on St. Lucia, Kenny Anthony and Calixte George went cap in had to the embassy ask for them to let the election be over before they broadcasted the advisory, this cause crime to be at the lever that even my 104 year old father could not understand. Earl i suggest you shut your mouth when it comes to crime because SLP is the sole culprit for the state of we got under criminals. period

Don't you remember that when the UWP Members of Parliament killed my uncle, the great and unforgettable, John George Melvin Compton, and they were PAID the Taiwanese millions of BLOOD MONEY dollars, for their criminal services, that the other Lucian criminals decided that if Ministers can get rich overnight, that criminals too had a right to commit crimes and get rich? Don't you remember that when MPs Marcus and Estephane traffic violations files went "missing" in the DPP's office, that other Lucians decided that they too could commit crime? Don't you remember that when Minister Mondezod was caught in the tax evasion act, and he actually went to the Comptroller and PAID-UP, that Lucians decided that they too could commit their crimes? Don't you remember that when Richard Frederick's tax evasion case was thrown out, that Lucians decided that they too would evade taxes and commit other crimes? Don't you remember that when Stephenson King GAVE AWAY 90 million dollars of the poor taxpayers money, to bail out Daher with his derelict building, where stray dogs and jumbies now sleep, while Daher is liming and drinking champagne in New York, that Lucians decided that they too would commit their crimes? Don't you remember that when Lucians found out that their Minister of Foreign Affairs was once United States Federal Prisoner 77316-012, Bruce Duane Tucker, that Lucians decided that they too would commit their crimes? Don't you realize that now that the US government has revoked Minister Richard Frederick's diplomatic and private visas, that Lucians suspect more and more that the Minister has BIG TINGS TO HIDE, and that Lucians will decide that they will commit their crimes as well. Don't you remember that when Minister Richard's BAD-BOY goon, "Smoking Joe" insulted and beat up a Police Officer, in the presence of the Minister, while the Officer was performing his Police duties, that Lucians decided that they too would commit their crimes? Don't you remember that when the full Cabinet of Ministers aided and abetted Minister Mondezod's tax-evasion crime, that Lucians decided that they too could commit their crimes? Avery good article almost balanced, but one cannot expect everything.On the whole I concur with the sentiments expressed in your article.
It is my view that the only realistic objective is to minimise crime, creating an environment in which criminals of all persussion feel uncomfortable.
Our problem in St.Lucia is that our social fabric is suffering from moral decay. The increase in all types of crimes stems from a total breakdown of our basic values. The majority of the people need to reclaim the moral high ground and reassert the values and beliefs which made our Island. Men and women in public life must, engender high moral principles and lead by example.It is not with out some type of logic to assume the position of good for goose good for gander, or even to mimic the behavior of our of our leaders.
The battle against crime has to be fought in our homes, ,by the examples we set, and ejecting that old premise that children are blind or deaf, in our schools, the types of values imparted in schools to our children, ensuring the teachers are of the right moral calibre to be trusted with the education of our children.
Our institutions which have been high jacked by undesirables must also be reclaimed, civil society the church business groups, must all join in the fight to reduce crime.This is a we fight , those who call themselves the silent majority, its time to break your silence.
