Part of the problem with the teaching system is that, there are veteran teachers who refuse to change their practices. These teachers are not fired, and professional development is not mandatory for them. Like many jobs in St. Lucia, they are allowed to perform poorly with no consequences. Teaching is like a "job for life" where you have to do something really, really, criminal to lose it. In the meantime, our children suffer, particularly the less academically able.
