No rastas, period! Their philosophy is very different and they see coppers as Babylon. Why would they be the very people that they hate? And they're always high on some illegal substance.

Like the current police officers observe the laws.

There are many police officers who smoke weed. So that should not be a criteria not to hire Rastas to join the Force. How many alcoholics are there on the Force? They even go to work drunk! What is the difference between marijuana and Alcohol? Let us stop being so hypocritical shall we?

A rasta in the police force would be like a natty dread in a BABYLON.

well i think rastas should join and get the bad cops out and look how crime die

I can understand that Rastafarian philosophy is evolving as they beome more involved with literature, travel, schooling and the like.

I think there should be discussion engaging Rasta to explain why the members would be willing to be the "face" and "voice" of a system that they vehemently condemmed as oppressive, unfair, and babarious.

Let the discussion and debates continue Mr. Francois. Let's learn from the baldhead Rasta. No decisions yet please!!!

Top cop get wised and stopped the discrimination...Rastas are citizen, do the right background check on your cops and compared it to Rastas in society. Most of your are alcoholics womanizers etc... STOP THE DISCRIMINATION, WISE UP !!!

@ the person making the comment "and they're always high on some illegal substance", is an ignorant comment. I am rasta with long locks, and I know many others, who like myself, are not high on illegal substances, but are "high" because we are cleansed of the meat, sugars, processed foods, and chemical vaccinations. There are many marijuana smoking police officers not just in St. Lucia but all over the world, and shall we mention the alcohol consumption of them?
If a person wants to be a police officers, there should be no discrimination based on race, color, creed or hair!

No one is discriminating against Rastas, the fact is that ganja smoking is a per-requisite to be a Rasta, which impairs judgement. How can you uphold the law when you're always bloody high?

And how about the Rascals...the fake Rastas with criminal intent?

A true Rasta, Seven Tribes or not, would not become a part of the very system that oppresses them.

"And upon her forehead was a name written.....".

A “true ratsman" would never be a cop. Now you have the folks that wear dreads as a hair style, these can be policemen. I have seen a number of uniformed officers in various cities in the USA and my skin cringes as I know these guys are not rastas. I hate that a symbol of a religious group is being trivialized.

Dreadlocks in Jah's name, are NOT a fashion statement. H.IM. would be ashamed.

Very few true Rastas in St Lucia.

We St. Lucians, live in a predominantly black country, and Rastafarians are a significant part of our community and black culture. It is my opinion that state institutions such as the Police are meant to serve the people and like all state institutions should be inclusive of the people it serves.

We cannot make broad sweeping statements about a group within our society without consulting with them. They should be given the opportunity and we might be surprised they may have very acceptable proposals for working as police.

Please show me a true and honest Rasta in St.Lucia? If yes I have the Pitons for sale.

THAT WILL BE THE DAY THE POLICE FORCE WILL LOSE ITS UMPH!

its not about rastas in the force- its about dreadlocks in the force. there could already be rastas in the force- with their hair cut clean. there are prerequities for joining the force- a clean cut is one. Why break status quo now? did the rastas say something? you want to join the force then follow the rules. i mean,'you could drink, smoke, beat your wife, eat pork and take advantage of the innocent but please, no natty dreads!'

I think the issue was a topic for a debate among police officers as one of the activities leading up to Police Week. I believe Dread locks or Rastafarians need to be asked their opinion on the subject. Do they see themselves serving the government and people of St. Lucia as police officers? Are they prepared to conform to the dress code and code of conduct of the Royal St. Lucia Police Force? If the answer to these questions is yes, then I see no reason for discriminating against them.

OECS Teacher...we call it cover-up, an attempt to legitimize a wrong deed...Of course: "f you cannot beat them then join them".

Anonymous said...

who said they couldn't beat them? dreaklocks or rastas have put plenty of pocket change in many police officers' pockets.. so why join them when you already beat them?
