i fully embrace the writers point of view until he said, We have the resources!"
Vehemently say NO we lack the resources to assist athletics to better them selves and their skills eg scholarship where aspiring athletics can further nurture their skills at various universities or colleges which has the required facilities. But no, these talented youth are left in st.Lucia were their sporting skill and dreams die and they become Nobody!!!!. Only a few ,Make it alive.

The writer is also extremely naive to ever persuade himself into believing that Mr Sammy united the West Indies. That must be the Bounty Rum talking.

When people in many different countries around the world followed every game that Michael Jordan from the US played, did that unite those countries? Foolishness!

One follows a team or supports a team because of the skills of a player or players on show, or because of the outstanding performance of the group.

Most rational people love to be identified with a winner. That is even so when the winning is temporary as was the case of that murderous thug and vermin, Osama bin Ladin.

Crowds of young people made him their hero.

The writer is so darn immature.

Praise Sammy for his success. OK. Feel justifiably good about his success, because he hails from Saint Lucia. But get a flipping grip on reality. Won't you?

Great article, it seems that some miss the point completely. The writer was talking about being patriotic,no team colors, etc. To say that the flags has too many colors is dumb. Germany, South Africa and many others have more than four main colors on their flag. They do not wear all the colors of the flag as their uniform.Take a look at some of these countries.Take the Chicago Cubs baseball team, haven't won a championship almost 100 years, but yet their fans still support them heartily.Sometimes the truth hits us in the face and we just deny, deny, deny.

People support teams and individuals who are successful. To become successful, these teams and individuals need support from the people. Unfortunately, we in St. Lucia are not very supportive, or very patient or very realistic. We expect our sportsmen and women to achieve these incredible feats without the necessary tools. We have talented people, but to perform well on the world scene, talent alone is not enough.

In my opinion, we just don't have enough pride. We have a beautiful country and we have some good things going for us, but we don't care. The few resources/facilities we have are in shambles, despite the money spent on them. We look outside for individuals to do jobs that our own people can do. As far as the sporting aspect is concerned we need a successful team to rally around. Without that, the patriotism will not be evident.
