Without malice or ill will

Mr Josie, same here no personal malice. All we want is to help the people we love and care about in Saint Lucia and the Caribbean.

But I am waiting to seen if you are a man of action.

In 2013 I will be looking to see if you will start work on the Peter Josie Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship.

I can tell you that the Chinese are waiting to get some influence in Saint Lucia and they might think providing you with a foundation grant might be a good way to start.

Thanks for your public participation.

Clearly, from the heavy industrial pap that Josie has written there about the VAT, it leaves little doubt that he knows precious little about taxation and the modern day economy.

Yeah man, taxation is nothing like the communist BS that characterised SLAM.

I wish that this man would do just a little research sometimes, and not shoot the usual crap of which our honoured media talk-show hosts are so earnestly and productively supplying.

Blogger at 8.39, you've just hit it on the head: Josie belongs to Golden Hope! All the man does is sit and write SHIT! Hear Josie: "In the meantime the UWP party faithful prays that the US Embassy will release it from the hanging sword of Damocles – its precious visa to God’s Kingdom on earth! The UWP misery extends to the discovery that ‘New Labour’ is not averse to stealing Compton’s legacy by embracing his former frIn (sic) to the end". Ranting, raving and like Velon John, just meandering! What the F... is Josie trying to say? All I decipher here is CRAP!

Peter, back in 1980 ( don't hold me to the exact date ) Guy Ellis wrote an open letter to George Odlum. I want you to go back and read that letter, then lead a group of young people who love the people and St.Lucia enough to move the country forward. Do you have the gonads to do that?

I am a chartered Accountant and international VAT expert of many years experience. I am also an experienced business consultant.

Josie makes sense.

It will not bother big companies but could and sometimes will destroy small to medium sized ones from a cashflow persepective. I have seen this happen many times.

Remember a business will not survive if it cannot pay its important bills on time, VAT being high on the list, never mind how profitable it is on paper.

Liquidity i.e cash is king- this is all the banks truly consider when they consider overdrafts loans etc.

VAT will have a major negative impact on many in the SME sector ability to manage their cash flows efficiently, thus calling into question their very survival.

For some time now, those of us who dare to subject ourselves to, and are suckers for punishment, by wading through what Josie writes, know that you will be served some heavy helpings of pure industrial strength pap and crap.

I will agree that I expected the move to VAT to be smoother. We have been talking about it for years and we had examples from the region to look at. Now that it has been implemented, there seems to be many things that have to be ironed out. The VAT on medication is a prime example of something that should have been thought of before VAT implementation.

The lame critics,..... most of them living in frigid weather at this of the year, should at least offer a constructive alternative to Peter's tome.I can't believe that you guys are so feeble-minded!

So why did we have to pay so much to those idiotic consultants? Why wasn't the PM more sensitive to endangering the health of the workers in this economy, those who he was about to SWAT -- sorry VAT -- but on whom he depends to bring in the streams of necessary VAT revenues?

Degrees in law do not by happenstance educate anyone about the ramifications and ripple effects of taxation on any economy.

You do not get to understand economic reality by merely reading speeches written for you by the Permanent Secretary Finance, and/or the Director of Finance.

The introduction of the VAT in Saint Lucia is a classic example of a botched-up public policy implementation initiative that is worthy of a publicc administration textbook case study.

But with so many idiots on national public MIS-information media, spouting their usual avalance of nonsense, the question is this: Would we learn anything of value from this, our experience? What are the lessons?

In this case it appears the the cash raised by VAT will be diverted to the unions. I would be surprised if most if not all of the unions were not in favour of VAT. Why not if I were a union member I would be too.

So it is here to stay suck it up and adapt to it

The amount of crap that the wrier of this column has written to date, if it were possible to load all of that onto the Titanic, it would sink that ship.
