Hopefully, this will help rectify the many problems we are having. Also hope that all these changes do not mean longer wait times for birth certificates.

Now this seems to be a Public Officer who is genuinely concerned about her country; and is using her brain to think of ways to solve problems. More of these are needed in that Public Service.

We cannot afford to have our people be looked upon as crooks and criminals internationally.

So we've got to solve this thing fast.

We've got to feel proud when we travel with our heads held up high.

Not like the Jamaicans and the Guyanese. We cannot afford that kind of image. For heaven's sake. Sort that matter out and quick.

How about removing the age of the birth mother? This information should be kept for official record purposes to monitor social economic trends, but it should not make its way into the final document. I see no reason for telling any agency that mother of Jane Doe for instance was 32 years old when she was born. Absolutely un-necessary information. And parents should be actively encouraged to give a name and register the child at the hospitals to minimise problems of birth certificates having no name of child attached. Thankfully, except for a fool-fool typing error at the Registry that had me as male, my parents were smart enough to do things right in the 1970's. Now that rectification was accomplished by simply applying for another birth certificate this time typed by someone paying a little more attention to the correct records than the previous person. As for deed polls and documents reflecting previous names. This is a great idea. And anyone who applies for a new passport with a deed poll should present their original birth certificate to have that passport reflect their previous names. Some go into the people's country committ all manner of fraud and make it difficult for others when visas are dumped on our heads like in Canada.

That is a crock of crap. There is no written law that prevents a person from changing their names any time they want to and for whatever reason.
Besides, a birth certificates has nothing to do with change of names. It only verifies that your mother gave you a name which ,if you do not want it you are free to change it at will. Any time you change your name, a fee has to be paid by that very Registry and they do not not refuse the name change and they give you a document as proof of that change.
The next thing is that a person is free to call himself or herself whatever she pleases, so the Registrar and all her cohorts like UNICEF need to quit pussyfooting and say exactly why they are so interested in people's birth certificates and names and headcount of newborns all of a sudden. It's so sad for our little island. First, they fly over to Bohemian Grove to chart our destiny and then they come in with VAT which is totally a British system (never mind we say we are Independent) then they come up with some phony reason for making sure they keep our children in check by counting heads through birth registration and fixing errors on birth papers free of charge. The question is, what are all these distractions doing for our people or our country? What next will they be checking and cementing? Why can't our people be left alone? We are suffering through poverty which more often results in crime, young people are leaving schools with no prospect of being employed, Our women, and even our young men are being sexually exploited just to get jobs, Even our seniors are forced to find employment or they might just perish. Yet nobody addresses these issues. These crimes against the very fabric of our nation are created by those in high places, yet they continue to sit in their high chairs and laud it over the whole nation pretending that they are in our corner while they fatten themselves and their families and close associates. They did not defend us when Canada and the rest of the world barred us from trying to survive by putting visa restrictions on us (as if nobody else in the whole world is guilty of so called exploiting their systems of devilshment), they keep selling us a piece at a time to Europe and America by borrowing when they know they do not have the wherewithal to repay, they overcrowd the prisons deliberately when they can deal promptly with those cases, just to fill their coffers with money, the economic situation of our people is getting worse, yet they insist on implementing more rules and laws. The government of St Lucia has always been the epitome of evil and they are the bane of our very existence. Will our so called leaders ever change and do things that would benefit the people? Seriously, of what benefit is counting people and keeping check on birth certificates and name changes to our people? They are sucking the lifeblood of our people and all in the name of preventing crime. Only, the biggest form of criminality and the biggest criminals are those who profess to care so much and avow to make this country better. It's a Shame that we have so many ostriches, hypocrites and bloody bleeding hearts who really do not know the difference between patriotism and self aggrandizement. Down with all of them!

To the person who suggested that the deed polls should have previous names: That is why it is called a Deed Po;. It does actually have the previous names.
