More studied indifference?

The Country also waits full and transparent disclosure for the sake of good governance and accountability in Government regarding the matter of the GRENBERG OIL EXPLORATION PROJECT; for which that company has filed a legau suit against the people of St. Lucia for FIVE HUNDRED MILLION UNITED STATES DOLLARS which would obviously wipe out the total finances of this country.
Yes, I think that in the same vein we need full disclosure, transparency and accountability on the Grenberg matter especially in light of the contingent liability to which our country is now exposed.
I agree, five hundred million united states dollars computes to be at least East Caribbean, one billion, three hundred and sixty million dollars. We as a country really can't survive under such a horrid situation.
The Minister for Finance should and must resign. Do the right thing.
dealing with A before B. The is exactly what the article speaks about studied indifference. The current report shows that people believe that white collar crime is normal and each government repres/hacks/ supporters should get away with it. The mismanagement of public funds is a crime.plain and simple and in any other country this individuals will face jail time. Grenberg needs to be reported and discuss and eventually will as these proceedings will be open to the public as the government cannot hide in US courts. Until that time you have white collar criminals walking free with state funds. Let the opposition leader or his members defend theis actions and they too become aiders and abetors or criminals.
Calm down now, mission accomplished ==========================
The completed investigation and resultant audit of the Town and Village Councils will be all. Now we can go back to life as usual. The objective of such an activity is indeed what I thought it would be from the onset. 1. Name and shame the major culprits in the report and parliament. 2. Deal a body blow to the UWP in terms of public perception as a corrupt bunch who cannot be trusted with the management of the country’s affairs. 3. Show the perceived less-corrupt SLP as just that - our lapses and infelicities pale in comparison to the feeding frenzy revealed in the report. 4. Boosting the SLP’s chances of winning the next elections when they are called and I suspect this time before they are constitutionally due to capitalize on the shell shocked UWP’s shame. 5. Creating just enough distraction from the fact that the government is non-performing in terms of the critical economic development metrics, especially jobs.
I predicted earlier that this would be a public relations coup for the ruling party as the UWP would find themselves in a damage control situation that would necessitate the help of the likes of Olivia Pope of the popular TV show Scandal. There was absolutely no intention to escalate the issue to the point of engaging the services of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Undoubtedly some of these abuses were egregious enough to meet the threshold of outright theft. The thought that no heads will roll, no one brought to account will send a loud and clear message to the other potential raiders of the public purse and the country at large that crime does in fact pay.
Thus the person seeking a driver’s license or a birth certificate will feel justified in greasing a palm to get through faster. Conversely, the civil servant on the receiving end of that bribe will feel not an iota of guilt. The person offering a bid on a government contract will find it easier to engage in underhanded practices to win that bid.
It is not that such practices aren’t par for the course in our sick society it is the tacit endorsement of the system that facilitates it’s taking root and spreading to all facets of our society that is frightening. The Prime Minister and his party seem all smug and might be fist pumping like Tiger Woods sinking a thirty-foot putt but it is Saint Lucian society that will pay the ultimate price for this.
Invariably it is the poor that often get shafted by this sordid saga. The concept of the “politician-thief” is reinforced in the minds of our young and impressionable - our future leaders. The ideal of the “servant-leader” is expunged from our consciousness and replaced with a “get-yours-while-you-can” mentality. Ultimately the moral and ethical fabric of our society is shredded.
We sure understand the reluctance and difficulty associated with prosecuting the most egregious offenders not least of which is the chumminess that exists among the political elite. The setting of a precedent of which those currently in power will, in the future, fall victim to. Perhaps it is our smallness that renders impartiality and independence of thought virtually nonexistent in our society. The DPP may a cousin twice removed of the culprit(s). None of these excuses should impede the free flow of the course of justice.
We are yet to hear of any plans to strengthen our laws and stiffen the penalties associated with public corruption. Will there be training of persons who will man our councils so that those who transgressed out of ignorance will be the wiser in the future? What about the appointment of an independent Contractor General with the appropriate enforceable powers?
We cannot have a better Saint Lucia if our leaders are too timid to act with great moral courage, political will and alacrity when the need arises. Simply put you have to break eggs to make omelet.
You have the nerve to write this now; about Blom Cooper? When you all sat down and never protested when the DEVIL John Compton put Ausbert D'Auvergne in Government. Shame, shame, shame.
Well he ended just where he belongs. There is a natural equilibrium in everything.
Some of these crooks in the SlP and stink to high heaven.
When they realize that bloggers are on target about the tricks/flashing mirrors of the SLP, they get so flustered, irritated and nervous, that they curse nasty words and stinking shit fly out of their mouths with the most rage.
The fact is many of us here know that whilst Richard Frederick exposed Grynberg, D'Auvergne tried to cover it up, so he could have something on Kenny Anthony to negotiate for his own bag of tricks/deceit and continue his merry way with the Daher Scandal Building and the deception contract for Point Seraphine.
Say deux nom sar-lar. Yon par vo lot. eux papa chiens.

Stay conscious my friends.

Yes Blogger above I agree. But you did not mention the fact that that wretched bastard Kenny Anthony was trying to place him in his Cabinet as well.
