THE BABONNEAU POLICE STATION

Crime prevention and proactive policing is as good as the paper it is written on. But what the Prime minsiter fails to acknowledge is that building new police stations or hiring more police officers or prison wardens, upgrading the only reformatory on the island will not stem the tide of crime. True, some crime is due to lack of anger management, but most of the criminal activity on the island is due to lack of employment. Say what you will, but when there are no jobs for people to feed their families and nowhere to earn income to sustain themselves, people will commit crime. Will the Prime minister focus a bit on employment especially for these young people leaving school with all these CXCs and no where to get jobs? yes, we need law enforcement, but instead of building new police stations, why not build some factories? St Lucia does indeed have sufficient resources to adequately feed and take care of the needs of its people...it's our politicians who have no wisdom and seem to have the proclivity to focus on scoring points with voters rather than focussing on the welfare of the masses. The welfare of the masses right now is far removed from building police stations in every corner of the island. let us be realistic...will another police station curb the rising crime. Why, hardly anybody is trying to find out the reasons for all that crime. As for people being friendly with the cops, then that is a whole other story!

Hats off to the PM. More police stations more people in jail. That is all the people of St Lucia need right now. While the level of employment deteriorates, politicians make a desperate effort to prepare for criminals. Is that all they can focus on right now? Will all the children leaving school become cops? Wow! What a bunch of dumb people. Seriously, more police stations will not prevent the rising crime on the island. Mr Prime Minister we do not want distractions...we want ways and means to sustain our families especially with VAT on right now. How can we pay VAT when we have no jobs? Yet we are asked to fund more cops! Is that the best our so called leaders can do?
