My personal opinion is that we need to revisit the issue of the apparent need to have local artisans and designers compete with the lower-end of product prices: there are countless examples of artisan products at high prices across the world, so there are valid markets - in which some of us already sell successfully.
There are cases for all price ranges, but the reality of Saint Lucia makes it extremely difficult for artisans to compete at the lower end of prices - the development of fiscal and other support systems would somewhat alleviate this, but we cannot expect our artisans to exist on the wage levels found in lower cost of living countries, so we will remain middle - high price producers and we need to develop our marketing and market accordingly.
We all look forward to being part of developing a better climate for our businesses and industry so Saint Lucia can be proudly and confidently represented with the best of all price ranges of goods possible.
