Do the people of this country realise that there is a world wide recession right now? In much bigger countries governments are struggling to subsidise let alone in a small island such as ours! People around the world are taking pay cuts just to stay in jobs and we have people holding a country ransom for a wage increase at this critical time.....the CSA president and the unions need an education in economics to really understand how economies work. I can understand that your labour force is important but really and truly you walk into ALOT of governmnt offices and see workers sitting back doing absolutely nothing! maybe the goverment should agree to 20% yes and then in order to maintain that cut down the workforce and weed out the slackers...then we will hear another song being sung. St.Lucians stop making the world laugh at you!!!!

Didn't the prime minister realise there was a world wide recession right now? Why did he offer 14.5% increase? Was he using civil servants to score political points? You don't play with adults that way, we are not toys! Let him deal with what he created now, if he can't tell him to make way!! I think the world is laughing at the comedy show going on now that is known as the budget debate!!

As much as i agree with the second comment, i have to say kudos to the first comment. Most gov't offices you go to instead of someone ask how can they help you, you have to go to them. They will see you standing there and still ignore you. Those civil servants know it is not easy to fire them, they get away with a whole lot of shit (pardon my french. Why would you want an increase and you're not doing any work. Those individuals have to ask themselves questions. And all the people berating the gov't, i do not think that they can do any better than him.

If I were in the government's shoes, I would pay the 7.5% BUT I would negotiate to cut the public service to sustain the increase. Am I being fair? You bet!!!!!

Do they work more to request more pay?
Fire them all and hire staff who works for half their salaries.
