China has one and only one goal and that is world domination at the expense of slave labourers in China.

This is a shaky proposition on gratitude, in this case. The man broke the law! Now, if we can be creative and take advantage of the billion dollar industry that Sports is; then our young people will not have these kind of people in their lives, period!

Quid pro quo,PJ. We have to maximise the return on our support(investment), for any country's foreign policy. What matters,is that the resources derived, must be properly utilized towards the develpoment of St.Lucia.I make no apologies for that!

Peter J., Good points made there in that article regarding the prostitution by leaders (essentially) of small states in the China/Taiwan fracas. While I don't think the China relationship between so-called developing states can be cast simply as one of imperialism of the past, because China has a history of a different relation to modernity and development, I do believe it is important to stress that all states act self-interestedly, even small ones. The interstate system such as it is and was (given the phenomenon of globalization) is and was made up of competitive states advancing their own agendas. So does China and Taiwan and presumably St. Lucia.
I like this article by Josie because it opens up a vein for dispassionate discussion about 1) the need for respectful engagement in our discussions, 2) the productive raising of foreign policy issues.
