I was very happy to see the government and the opposition coming together for the benefit of the Country.

Whatever happened to the government's supposed purchased and renovation of the Daher Building?

In my opinion, that would make more sense that the construction of a new costly 6-story complex.

Who is the Architect for this buiding and why is the construction cost withheld? However, I have no objections to this building but more transparency is needed.

What is the latest on the Daher building? Perhaps it can be used as branch offices for GOSL as well as for rental to the public in order to collect badly needed revenue.

Forget that. Kanye West & Kim Kardashian are coming to St Lucia! Boom! Putting da island on da map.

This will do more for the island than any new government building!

i heard from the news itself this new finance building is in the range of $45million ECD i believe..

As regards the daher building SLP was adamant against renovating that building that would cost a little more perhaps $10million ECD more from past news reports SO I SUPPOSE ITS CHEAPER TO BUILD NEW..

ANYWAY, I saw a link ON-- http.nlba.com [on the drawing board]a local architectural firm.. there proposed financial centre is much more 21st century appealing than what NH construction will be constructing- their new financial design looks rather bland and unattractive..looks like the gov buildings we know of on the castries waterfront... in my view
But its nice that any progress is still progress and less tax money paying rental fees all over the place.. I want to know about the business development centre if that will come off the ground as well ASAP at point seraphine...

OH i wanted to proposed a simple idea about the DAHER BUILDING.. i think the gov should basically try to attract private sector investors to either buy or lease the whole building on their own or go into a partnership with an investor local or foreign..

Daher building should be made into what it was intended for.. A MALL/HYPERMART... yes a shopping centre/entertainment...that would spur alot of economic activity in bois dorange already a hotbed of offices and small businesses.. a mall would do wonders for that area.. another leisure spot outside Rodney Bay..

Perhaps the gov could transfer a handful of their offices in that building. Maybe allow either for residential spaces for a small boutique hotel or semi furnished rooms for locals to purchase and live in on the far right of this mall... a BOWLING ALLEY will do well as it was part of the original plan

This office building should have been constructed in Vieux Fort. The justification for having all your personnel under one roof or even in the city was made risky as a result of 9/11. The Location of this building would spur economic activities in the south through direct jobs from construction to operations and also indirect jobs in the entertainment and restaurant industry. This will also assist government in decentralizing its services to the populations from Micoud to Choiseul who have had to bear the cost of travelling from the South to Castries. The office building should also be attached to a cutting edge conference center. This would make St. Lucia more attractive as a tourism destination for MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences and entertainment). This conference center, together with a refurbished Hewanorra International Airport and a proposed new hotel in Vieux Fort would make Vieux Fort more attractive to other investors. In addition, this new building would assist in a population shift from the north thereby resulting in reduced congestion of foot traffic and vehicular traffic. It looks like Vieux Fort will have to wait for Menda (World War II Americans) to return before it can make any progress.

Castries will now get uglier for the next two years when this construction starts. I can feel the pains of Vieux Fortians.

"This office building should have been constructed in Vieux Fort...."

This office building is for the beautification of the neighbourhood; cruise ships don't come to 'Port Vieux Fort'.
I think the Daher Building along the Castries/Gros islet highway would have been better served.

Cruise passengers are not looking forward to seeing North American architecture in the Caribbean. They are in search of more authentic French style architecture and not these concrete monsters. If you want to make the waterfront more attractive to cruise ship passengers then you should create a village type architecture in the area.

Yes, it may be easier to uproot the Daher building from where it is and transport it to Vieux Fort. The technonolgy exists. And what's more important is that "the" daher is from Vieux Fort.

What about moving the ministry of communications and works to V/Fort?

Follow up!:The late John Comption held a conference on developing the south some 30 years ago.Remember that conference? Yes,move the ministry of comm and works to V/Fort,the time is right!

What's the significance in moving the comm and works to vieux fort? Yes, there have been many conferences and plans drawn for vieux fort, but they just do not seem to materialize. The reason may very well be the precarious, intransigent political position of the south: UWP can and has always formed the government without winning the Vieux Fort seat and SLP does not have to do anything for Vieux Fort to win that seat. However, from a macro perspective, there must be a government led economic intervention in vieux fort, if vieux fort and St. Lucia has to develop. The North has become a specialized and saturated economic structure whereas Vieux Fort can present the island with greater economic flexibility. The location of the Finance Building in Vieux Fort would also make it more convenient for the PM and district rep for Vieux Fort since he would not have to travel from Vieux Fort to Castries daily.

to anon 8:32 am-- There are plans to transform port castries starting with the waterfront- i am hoping that ROYAL CBEAN cand start those works this yr or is it up to the gov .. anyway those plans will eventually incorporate french colonial style architecture..
Speaking of VIEUX FORT i believe that the MP for V-fort who is the prime minister at this moment & can only be the prime minister because v-fort ppl voted for him to win.. HE OWES VIEUX FORT a hefty sum of development which NO ONE has seen YET.. Prime minister KENNY has to pay up...

V - Fort needs their modern slick international airport to start,[ OH according to SLP manifesto they plan to build a new Ministry building in vfort so Vieux fortians dont worry.. perhaps next budget i suppose] & V fort needs a few more hotel developments & the HORSE RACING TRACK as a start!!!! [also in their manifesto ]

What about parking for this building? What about the congestion caused when cruise ships call? What about buying the building that now houses the GIS? What about a BOLT arrangement for the other Government buildings on the Watefront?

The area where this new office is going to be built has exceeded its carrying capacity....it is inefficient due to heavy foot traffic and vehicular traffic and this building will even make it worse. In addition, whereas the world is going Green and while St. Lucia has an opportuntity to remain green, increased vehicular traffic and exhaust fumes will only make this place environmentally unfriendly. And to introduce more cruise ships....boy, there is need for wider research.

My thoughts seem to be wasted ... but ... a government minister at one point, DID point out that this land was reserved for "authentic" St Lucian craft shops!!! What happened??

*zzzap*!!

If the Daher building is now owned by GOSL the new gov. ought to maximize its potential. Perhaps an open or limited competition should be called for teams of Architects, Economic Planners, Marketing Specialists, etc. to come up with creative proposals for this building that would be green, marketable and economically viable.
