Hey Stan, what is your take on the community carnivals such as Dennery, Vieux Fort, and Soufriere especially the bands that get no subvention, scarcity when it comes to sponsorship and marketing, and clashing dates with some of the "national" events when putting together shows and ultimately their carnivals; and it seems if they (the bands) want to get any part of the subvention they MUST join the Carnival Bands Association of "Castries" as I look at it. Even to get the little customs duties off when importing materials for making and yes the community carnival bands MAKE their costumes, its a hassel.
@ above: Through witnessing the product that is put on display on the "community" Carnival circuit, I have always felt that despite much sponsorship, organizers do try their best to put on a show in order to keep the tradition alive. Perennially, organizers I speak with lament the support that is given to the Carnivals bands operating within the Castries City circuit but not them (the "community" Carnival units). I, too, believe that reality is unfair. In fact, the CDF's limited role in Carnival these days mandates them to develop the "community" Carnival product. Thus far, though, the adequate support required has not been forthcoming as far as what I witnessed from previous years and what the "community" Carnival organizers keep telling me.

What do you expect.Government should not be running Carnival.
It is written, any thing manage and control by government, especially in St.Lucia is a mess.
