Is VAT The Christmas Cheer?

A simple example.
A meat pattie was $4.50
Since VAT it is $5.18
I then pay 15% on that at the checkout.
That is a 30% increase. There are other instances of this as well.

This is not correct and is happening because they dont understand that they only have to remit the difference of the VAT charged.

Sadly we are paying for the few months till they get to understand.
