Its time the CS receive a treatment like a ordinary employee, with no allowances,no regular salary increases,no backpays,no secure job,no overtime paid, with 40+ workinghours (not attending hours),
Mr prime minister take a stand and COUNTRY FIRST!
A sad note (on both partys),when they are in opposition they will support salaty increases, but when they are in office they cry.Sometimes I wonder if this childisch tactics of our politicians are worth to be LEADERS?

What our country need is an "AUTOMATIC" SPENDING CUT BILL (like USA). It will come into effect soon as the national debt passes a limt.
This would be more effective then last minute rescue efforts.

Arbitration is a losing strategy in today's marketplace and economy for unions. Unions will always get the short end of the stick, now and in the future with this.

Who selects the majority on the arbitration panel?

Ask those who knows about this and how unions have fared internationally, like the ILO (International Labour Union). Sir Roy, our neighbour over the fence in Barbados with ILO experience would be a very useful resource. It is better to avoid arbitration and to keep on talking. Our union leader does not appear to know his craft.

Don't pay them a dime. We all face hardships at this time. Ministers of government should get a pay cut.

Considering the state of the world economy with daily violence protests taken place in the Middle East, Latin America, Europe and Africa, St. Lucians must be commended for being the most peaceful people on the planet. Why hasn’t there been more violent uprising against corrupt SLP government?

Anonymous said...

For people who give very little srvice, these civil servants sure demand a lot.retrench them at 60%. st lucia has to go through the hardships just like every other country in the world. however, there are two issues that i think are important. one, the country has VAT but does the country have proper accountability systems in place to make businesses pay the VAT they collect? or will it be the same lucian style of who you know and who know you. the next thing is WASCO increase. how the heck did these goons at WASCO come up with 66%? in whose pocket will that go? is it the few? many governments the world over make a loss on essential services like water. so why the big pay hike ?

There is no question in my mind. The cost of living has gone up the people need a raise.

Who you think hires the Civil Service and have all kinds of positions created? Who ? Yea the SLP and UWP. Very correct.

Pay the people and stop playing with the country. This is not a time for pussy footing around. Talk is cheap. From day 1 had you done as you are asking people to do they would be a little more likely to accept 4% but you have lived large so expect nothing.

The man is a ceremonial PM. He plays Mr. Tourist with his value-less tours around the globe if only to avoid dealing with the domestic problems he is clueless about solving. He continues to anger people with his vulgar lavish lifestyle while punishing people with his continuous pouring of million upon million of the people's money into his self-created financial blackholes deluding only himself by calling them investments.

Only mad people do the same things over and over and expect a different result.

The chickens having come to roost, to pay for his institutionalization of his delusional squander-mania he has created a VAT.

simple math if you have ten u you cannot give out eleven=(-1)
therefore, if the expenditure is exceeding revenue we are facing great economic hardship...Look down the barrel see what's coming

Trade unions will bankrupt you more. Lucians see sense - the fact they have a job should be enough for them. If they think they're worth 16% move abroad and find it. They'll soon run back

When a prime minister take office he SWEARING to serve the people of the country in the best interest.
Reallity is both leaders when in office WAISTING taxpayers money and and I find thats a crime and both partyleaders should find themself behind bars.
If you looking at the facts that a opposition leader receive a salary of 10000.- plus benefits which add to 12000.- per month, now you can understand why party leaders sticking on the position....
God bless our country

It is the time of Pharaoh in the earth again, and the rebellion, entrenchment and scorn of the great man mock at the plea of the worker in the trenches. We will diminish your wages and rachet up the taxes and fees on your lazy selves, and holler NO! like Pharoah, knowing well that, with the strain of infaltionary economic measures inflicted on national well being, the worker is worthy of more than 4% increase of his pay.
But, it is the time of Pharoah in the earth, and Ali Baba will not weep for peons pleading for pennies in the fields.

Kenny says that he get $xxxxx for his salary.
What he does not tell you is that he does not pay for Transportation or gas. Food is provided free at his 'residences'.

If this month his salary is less than he wants he just has to give himself a trip to Canada or the USA or the UK or Haiti and receives $1,000/day as a perdiem and his hotel , flight ,etc is all paid for,

So he travels for 10 days of the month and gets an additional $10,000 (TAX FREE) on his monthly salary.

ditto for the waste of time Mnisiter of Foerign Affairs.

You have to listen to every word these people say for once their lips are moving - dey lying !

If civil cervants think they more worth then what they getting, why they not put in the resignation and look for another job ????

If St. Lucians allow Kenny Anthony to pull wool over their eyes, and/or like Rick Wayne often says "piss in our eyes; and call it rain"; then we are out for a rude awakening from Kenny Anthony. He will walk over St. Lucians like dog shit on the streets.

First of all, Kenny Anthony claims that all the request for salary increases plus allowances will amount to twenty million dollars.

For crying out loud, what is this amount relative to one of the losses incurred to the Treasury by Kenny Anthony's daftness/incompetence i.e. the Roachmel loss was more than forty million dollars. Not counting GRENBERG, the St. Lucia Helenites Building in New-York, The National Conservation Authority's massive leak of funds etc. etc.

This is exactly what we St. Lucians were very concerned about. A whole lot of monies going down the drain, and when necessities are required, he Kenny would cry out "wolf". And this is what is really happening now.

Kenny must not get away with all these loss of monies and now he wants to be big and bully; and wants to hold the country to ransom. But it will be him, that will be losing out big time.

He had his plans afoot to raise the salaries of Cabinet Ministers, but had to hold back because someone let the cat out of the bag.

We must make any Minister for Finance fully accountable for their mistakes, and they should be paying them back, similar to what happens in the Private Sector. CEO's cannot just make bad mistakes regarding financial transactions; money losses occur, and no paying back. Not in this lifetime.

The inquiry into the massive loss of moneies on the road works program, with millions of losses; is another classical case in point.

High-ups in the Ministry of Communications and Works were known to be saying that they ain't taking jail for noone; when they were observing the wretchedness and corruption that was taking place with the so-called road development program.

We here in St. Lucia must let Kenny Anthony know where to get off with his feign conerns/deception. He's only interested in taking care of himself, his family and his cronies.

Any more ILO Contracts in the making ?

The Consumers Association must demand that the Public be informed by the Accountant General what the total cost of Per Diems as well as cost of travel, hotel, is for the time Kenny Anthony has been in Office, as well as Year by Year for the last two Administrations under his leadership.

Also show what is the same position for each member of his Cabinet and we the Public will have a good idea of how we are being taken for a long, long ride on the Tiger's backside.

Those persons talking about Kenny to put country first. What are they saying on all those monies that when down the drain of the Government Treasury like GRENBERG, ROACHMEL, NCA, Helenites Building in New-York and so on the Blogger above is very right on track, with the logic. And by the way I forgot to mention the Communications and Works multi-million dollar cost overruns.

Kenny must know that it is not only he and his family that have mouths and need to eat. We have mouths too.

So go to hell.

The Union leader I strongly believe knows his craft. He's no fool. But it well be that he is hoodwinking us; and playing dirty games with Kenny and Tony.

Blogger of March 03 @ 2.32AM. you are just about to be losing your supper. You black rat. You smell wherever in the trench that you are, that Kenny will have to go. He already looking for a leader from the South to replace him. His promises to inject one hundred million dollars plus into the economy has turned out to be exactly what it was when he said it---a hoax. Alice in Wonderland. Or shall I say, "Ken-An-ton in Wonderland". Mois dit, "Queek Quak!

We must now call for Government Ministers to take a deep cut, and a lower rate for per diems, plus a moratorium on travel unless it is a real necessity for the Country.

Anonymous said...

Whenever Kenny Anthony travels on "government" business, he receives:-

$1,000.00 if travel is within the region PER DAY'

PLUS, all Hotel expenses paid.

Plus, travel ticket paid.

So check how many times he went out since he came in.

And I am told he gets more than one thousand a day; if he travels out of the Region?

Nonetheless one thousand a day per every travel is a hell of a lot.

When he travels he gets all free lunches and dinners at the functions, plus the hotel rates generally comes with breakfast. It would be interesting to see if the hotel rates include breakfast or lunch. So in effect he does not have to spend that money. But guess what? He does not have to return it or account for it to the Treasury. Aint't that nice boy?

If Kenny Anthony need some help where to find some money take this;(its done with primery education).
In his adress he said there are 92 Senior officers with salarys over 12.000.- p.month.No comments on allowances plus office costs. A simple math calculation =
12000.-salary +allowancys 2000.-+office cost 8000.- come to 22000.- per month for 1 senior officer.Multyply this by 92 officers and 12 month yuo come to a figure of 24 million per year.
Questions: do we really need them? 92 senior officers to 160000people = 1senior officer for 1740 people?Office rent of over 1 mill per year for 1office at baywalk mall (by a former foreign minister? Do we need 2 prime minister secretarys, each 8000.-per month?
....a real leader start leading with savings on highest level then he can ask the lower ranks.

Well, well, it seems like the financial problems that are facing the rest of the world have miraculously missed St. Lucia. Why else would workers be asking for such raises when everyone else is giving smaller raises?

Do the workers need a raise? Absolutely! They are being asked to pay more (VAT, water etc) and are receiving the same amount of money. But what criteria do we use to say that civil servants deserve more than other workers? Because they keep the country running? Because they are our teachers and policemen etc? Well, our education system sucks! Just look at our students' performances at these national and regional exams. And let me not get started on the "fine" job that are police force is doing! And if your house is on fire, it will probably burn to the ground because the fire department will get there too late or will have no water when they get there. So yes, in these difficult economic times, let's give our civil servants the 9% raise and all the allowances they are asking for because they deserve it and other workers do not. And while we're at it, we can go into the money printing business to pay for all of it.

As for the gov't. I have no respect for either party as neither one has the country's best interests in mind. The PM is asking the workers to make sacrifices, yet I have not seen him or his ministers take the lead in making any sacrifices. As for the last administration, the 14.5% increase the civil servants got the last time, should never have happened and now we all pay!

There are many places cuts can be made and money saved, but everyone is checking for themselves. We've become a me, me society. In the end, we all lose.

The best job in St. Lucia right now is Leader of the Opposition. You lost the election. You get to sit behind your desk, send random memos to the media about things that you have not fully investigated and more than half of which blow up in your face. For that you receive at least $10,000 per month, while the rest of us deal with the harsh realities that you helped to create. Isn't that just wonderful!

Anonymous said...

Blogger above; you FORGOT to say that the exact same thing held for KENNY ANTHONY when he was the Leader of the Opposition prior to the last general election.

The STINKING POLITICS STINKS IN THIS COUNTRY. We are just up to our necks. We are fed up; and something will of course have to give.

Anonymous said...

LOL I see nothing blowing up in King's face. But I can see everything is blowing up in Kenny Anthony's face. I hope he is now learning; that a liar never remembers his lies. Lies never hold up. Instead they blow up. LOL

Anonymous said...

Blogger at 4:58 PM. I did not forget to say the same thing for Kenny Anthony when he was in opposition. I don't think either opposition leader should make that much money. There are many places dollars could be saved and in my opinion, that is one area regardless of who is in opposition.

March 06, @ 8.54AM Exactly point. That's what we must do to save our country.

It's not about the rotting parties; it's about GOOD GOVERNMENT.

If you are good as a Government. Fine, then I'm with your policies.

Shitting around in our eyes as a Government and you say its wayer you pouring. Go to hell and get out quick. We put you there.

We are the ones transferring some of our collective power to you. Treat that privilege right.

Otherwise you are not worth having it. Full stop!

Anonymous said...

I meant shitting in our eyes and you tell us that it is water you are pouring or like Rick Wayne likes to say, pissing in our eyes and calling it rain. No Siree, we just won't have that. Not in this technological age. Massa day done.

Lets say you are the GM in a company and you hiring an adviser/consultant. Will you pay him more then your salary???
Kenny hiring advisers/consultants and pay them 20.000.-plus when he make aprox.13.000.- per month.

How do this match???

Anonymous said...

You mean this Permanent Secretary making TWENTY-THOUSAND DOLLARS A MONTH; AND SO DOES TOO-JOUR-SOO?

So it means KENNY ANTHONY paying the man more than he made at the IMF?

yOU THINK THIS MAN WAS EARNING ELEVEN THOUSAND (US) DOLLARS PER MONTH AT THE IMF.

Someone needs to enlighten the public please on this.

The Prime Minister needs to bring all Ministers and the Cabinet together to table this issue and take a vote on it.
Revenue-generating tactics need to be at the forefront.
