This is a very, very significant step and development regarding Saint Lucia's human capital development and our educational infrastructure. The widening of the scope of education to include RESEARCH at the master's level is highly commendable!

Advisedly, while the three Universities of the West Indies have been very busy pre-occupying themselves with the production of run-of-the-mill graduates, it is nice to see that some other institutions are quietly and quickly filling in the gaping holes in our current education system.

Happily, sooner than later, Saint Lucians will have greater choice than making selections between tweedle-dee and tweedle-dum type candidates, as is overwhelming currently being presented by the two major political parties.

Wouldn't it be a great day when our prime ministers would have a background in the multi-dimensional concept of management --- other than in only (say) classroom management?

Wouldn't it be nice to have our Finance Ministers enjoying a credible background in financial or fiscal discipline -- without (say) a reliance and a fallback position on some notion of punishment?

Chances are, if trends continue, time may not be on our side before a precipitous descent into Cuban-style communism.

Maurice Bishop's body still has not been found after Grenada's misguided flirtation with that doctrine and practice.

Cuban workers in Grenada turned out to be Cuban soldiers. Remember?

Nevertheless, let's hope for the best but prepare for the worse. Congratulations graduates!
