Until the so-called educated ones among us; can impress on the others coming behind that there is nothing wrong with farming and that one can earn good money from it. No one will go there.

But importantly; too until Governments of this country take agricultural diversification seriously and put the needed resources into ensuring that we have a growing and thriving agricultural sector that feeds the nation; export where necessary and link to the tourism sector; this sector will remain a dead horse.Government must put their money where their mouth is. And what about the organization called IICA?

Why do we entertain politicians by making them believe that they are granting us the populace a favour; when they construct or do anything to improve the lives of the citizenry?

This is precisely what they come to our house to beg us to vote them into governmental office; to do.

They are not granting us a favour.

In fact; we are granting them a favour; by allowing them to serve us. We pay them a hefty salary monthly; with thousands of dollars in other perks; entertainment allowance; housing allowance; travel allowance etc.

Per diems galore when they travel overseas to conduct the nation's business.

Chaffeur driven vehicles (most expensive) ones in addition to paying them a monthly travel allowance; which is intended to meet the expenses of their own private vehicles which they hardly use at all.

So when the writer quotes John Compton (now deceased) about upgrading the standard of living in the country; Compton was not granting us any favour. This was what he was being paid to do.

Right now in the OECS St. Kitts has the highest Per Capita income; not St. Lucia. So what now?
