Is there not a criterior to get duty free concession under the tourism incentive act or through cabinet? Did Minister mondesir's residence or private villa at Bonneterre meet the requirement? Did the cabinet conclusion include the Bonneterre residence as part of Tuxedo villa? If they did on what basis did they arrive at that decision? The judge as far as i can see from my layman point of view never questioned the cabinets conclusion as per concessions to tuxedo villa. The judgement only questions and quashed the concessions given to Minister's mondesir's private villa because it was not proven that the residence was a part of Tuxedo villas. So if cabinet is granting concessions under the tourism incentive act why is it violating that act by granting the concession to a residence which does not qualify under that very act? Nobody or no government is above the law. The government is free to give Minister mondesir duty free concession for furniture, but not under the tourism incentive act. If they so badly need to give mondesir duty free concession they can still do it but not under the tourism incentive act. In that case there most likely will be a political fall out but definately not a legal one. The cabinet conclusion is that a concession was given To tuxedo villas which is and is still legitimate and not a private residence or villa which up to now neither minister mondesir nor the Attorney general have proven is part of Tuxedo villas.

The judgement has proven that the cabinet is not above the law and that is good for our democracy. The line of argument that only the people who elect them could naysay their decision.Tell me Mr. Springer what are the avenues for the people to say no to that decision? Next elections? So you are one who beleive in the two second democracy and allow the elected officials to commit trangression after trangression while we wait suffering until their term is up right? Talk about hypocrisy.Yes mr Springer everybody makes mistakes. There are some mistakes which require a caution and reprimand and some which require the one making the mistake to pay a higher price. If we are to go by your standards then we can simply allow all the murdurers to go free because many of them consider their actions to be a mistake. I also hate it when persons conveniently use the almighty god as an excuse for our trangressions and to justify our point.God gave us a free will to decide what we want. If he did not give us that free will then he would have prevented us from sinning and making those mistakes. We have to decide whether we live by the laws of men or the laws of god. It's our decision as he gave us that right and only he can take it away. The biggest perpetrators of division and wars on earth are Religion and politics. We all know the difference between right and wrong so stop hiding behind legal mumbo jumbo using god as a convenient excuse. God can see all the hypocrites who conveniently use him to pedal their political junk. Those hypocrites who are unable to call a wrong a wrong and do the right thing.God i beleive will only help us when we do what is right and reject what is wrong. How canhe help us when we continue to condone such blatant wrongdoing?

What a guy! what a guy! I have never read an article so devoid of logic and so full of typos and contradications. First of all Springer doesn't seem to understand the difference between a "Cabinet decision" and a "cabinet conclusion" and he proves this when he writes "I would have thought that cabinet having come to this conclusion that a judge would not overrule this decision". There's more confusion in his arguments on the separation of powers. On one hand he says the separation of powers principle is enforced in England and not in St. lucia then he says there is an overlap between the legislature and the executive in St lucia and in England. Blah, blah, blah. And what on earth is a "barrack room lawyer"? Springer uses the term twice.

Finally Springer should be ashamed to ever mention the NCA affair because he not only sat on the NCA Board when all the infelicities were going on there; he strongly defended menissa in some of his commentaries in the Voice. One of these days somebody will bring these commentaries to light and expose Springer as what he is, a hypocrite.

Why shouldn't he bring the NCA affair into that? Why is the SLP having a problem everytime Rochamel, NCA or Walter Francois is spoken.

At the time you defended those in charge. Why are you running away from them at this juncture.

Who is the hypocrite here. Springer, supporters of the SLP, or both of them.

I will go with both of them.

There is my bone of contention with you Dennis. Your politics is rather personal to me. You must come to the realization that the people of St. Lucia have evolved in their thinking as far as politics is concerned.

We do not give a rat's ass about Kenny and King, Menissa or Mondesir. We are just demanding ethics in public office period.

Perhaps you will be shocked to find out that many people who voted for Mondesir in Anse-La-Raye/Canaries share the same opinion that what he tried to pull was wrong, illegal, and unethical.

We are sick of certain people in St. Lucia who have a huge sense of entitlement because they are in public office or have some connection, clout or money.

Are you serious Dennis? If someone did not blow the whistle on this shenanigan we would have been none the wiser and these band of bandits would have robbed the public purse.

St. Lucia is changing Dennis, change with the times or remain the relic that you are.

Well said by the last blogger. I agree that St. Lucians are evolving in their political thinking and I'm hoping they will move quickly to the stage where politicians will not entertain using their public offices for personal gain and try to stay in power even after thier infelicities come to light. In any other country Mondesir would be gone.
