My solution to the vagrant problem to all of St Lucia is, to utilise the old prison at Bridge street. Secure it properly, fix it and put all vagrants there, for treatment, because they are sick people. I know some people will start talking about human rights etc, because they are not interesting in helping these people and he society as a whole. Some of these people want to get out of drugs, but they need help.

A vagrant is a human being. You don't lock up a human being who has fallen on hard times.
Wuy doesn't one of us offer him some shelter ,some new clothes, love and some food.
yes he may be mentally ill but the solution is to se if in fact he is.
I give up

That's why VAT should be implemented ASAP so that the government can get money to spend on social programs. We have to take care of the forgotten ones.

Don is that state because he wants to be that way.He allowed himself to get into cocaine and so on.He needs to put himself straight. He collects peoples money and puts it in bags(maybe stores it..i don't know)and still he wants to threaten them. The same way people work hard for money he can as well.He cannot expect an easy life. The police need to do their job and Don need to clean up his act!

You see what i am talking about, i came with an idea and some smart person talking about vagrants are human beings. I never said were not human being. What i said was to put them a place where they can get HELP. Most of the vagrants in St Lucia are not mentally sick, they only have a Cocaine problem. If the police bring them to a treatment center, that will not be against the law, because siting on ones property for most of the day is loitering and that is a crime. Harassing people is also a crime. So what right he has as a human being to commit these crimes. I never said to lock up the vagrants, all i sad was to secure them from the public to avoid them to get cocaine, which is the problem.

That problem is worldwide, it's a social problem and should be tackle from a social angle. The government should invest in rehab, but we have to help them after rehab with a place to live, a job or assistance and a sense of purpose and belonging.

'To mean something to somebody is one of the greatest satisfactions in life'.

Most of the vagrant have a place to stay, some even had jobs, but their problem is the crack. We have to find a way to keep them from the crack.

There is a difference between had and have.

Some vagrants do have families who beg to give them help but instead they choose to stay in the situation. They may even reach to a level where they curse out their own family members. They are not all insane (like Don is not). You take them to a place for help..most times they escape or fake health.I do agree that some form of help should be placed. We also need more professionals in our system for a more effective response.I also agree they are human being but having petty on them doesn't get the situation better all the time. They most likely may feed off those of us who are hard working individuals. They also have no motivation to get out of that way of life although they have plenty of time to think. The insane ones I could understand but not the drug addicts.

So what do you suggest, take them and dump them somewhere.

There are harmless vagrants who just want a dollar to buy food. There are rude and violent vagrants who have attitude and feels that you owe them everything.

However, when a vagrant threatens people in public or anywhere else, I say take them out by any means necessary.

You have the absolute right to defend yourself and your family against threats especially when someone wants what is yours.

I do not mind helping anyone especially when they are down and out.

When vagrants threaten the public they must be stopped by the law.

Please do not make excuses for violent vagrants and drug addicts with the energy, attitude and the comprehension to threaten those who do not adhere to their demands.

I would have to beat the living crap out of anyone who threatened me or my family with bodily harm because of what’s mine.

If they just shoot off their mouths with just words I would just ignore them and perhaps even paying for a meal for them without giving them the cash. However, if they make contact because they want what’s mine, then it would be all over.

I hope that the police are not planning on arresting and charging anyone who will defend themselves against these violent people, because that would be a travesty.

To the media, the government, the police and the proprietors of these establishments, I say, “do not print this kind of news and sounding helpless regarding a solution for these threatening vagrants, just fix it yesterday"

Don’t ask for their permission if they are refusing to behave themselves, just remove them and house them where they’ll be safe, fed, cleaned up and until they come to their senses.

Leaving them out there threatening the public is a recipe for disaster. The defender of his or her rights against these vagrants will not only be a victim, but will also become the arrested and charged for defending his or her rights. Stop it now before it is too late.

With the surplus of the government making deals and getting fat "King," lawless citizens should be confined to a place of treatment. Calling them "Vagrants" may not be correct for those who are officially sanctimonious. But, with treatment people who have lost the hope of understanding life can be helped. Citizens or visitors should not have to pay to feel uncomfortable. Why should a healthy young man be smoking pot, hanging out or even staying high to numb his situation out of his mindset; when his behavior affects those who are trying to better their lives.
