$500 for "Successful Common Entrance students"? What does Dr. Kenny Anthony mean by that? Universal Secondary Education ensures that every child is given the opportunity to enter secondary school. There are no successful and unsuccessful students. Only if he meant that the unsuccessful ones are the unassigned students who will be assigned after results are released by the Ministry of Education. So the successful 2800students who are assigned to secondary schools will be given the opportunity to receive $500 towards books and supplies. To Dr. Anthony I say Bravo!

Hello shock happy the emotions I felt to hear political party espouse a vision. Yes I felt inspired to hear Kennys vision that every family should have at least on member attend univercity. At last I can say SLP stands for that. The $500 grant to assist families attend school is creative and practical. I have been crying out for some vision from the party. Please share other visions for St lucia with the people. I like this approach.

That vision is short sighted in that he is giving these children a fish instead of teaching them how to fish.
Here's where such a policy would have the greatest impact the $500 could be used as a down payment for a cheap US$300 computer.

A local company CES or some other enterprising young person can partner with the government to provide these computers at reasonable profit and low interest as the balance could be paid in installments.

The computers could be ordered duty free to ensure affordability.
That would creat spin off enterprises like computer repair, and training in the use of the computer, MS word, MS Excel, MS Power Point, Mavis Bacon Typing etc.

A little more thought should go into this pronouncement so that it would have greater impact on the student receipients and the overall economy.

I'll grant him kudos for a first step

What cheap low-down dirty, stinking politics. Kenny Anthony still does not get it. Considering where he came from, that is, the way and circumstances of his own upbringing, he should be the last person to try to belittle, hoodwink and fool the poor people of St. Lucia, or for that matter, the St. Lucia rank-and-file, from fried chicken legs and mount gay rum, to five hundred dollar vouchers. SHAME, SHAME, SHAME. Kenny Anthony don't degrade St. Lucians, they need upliftment of who they are. Dignity and Honour. Not handouts, like the population are merely mendicants. You sick wretch. We are not impressed. You are desperate to get back into the corridors of power to take REVENGE, but you will get just what you deserve. This time, you will not recover. You wicked and evil wretch.

Whether we like Kenny or not,his vision for education is visionary and I commend the SLP. Education is undoubtedly the path to prosperity and progress. Under the current administration , due to the fact that our PM is not academically sucvessful has been devalued, that is a recipe for disaster.
The next area for focus is the develpoment of vocational education. As well as white collar sucesses we need to develop our plumbers electricians etc
Overall bravo to the SLP.
