Leave that spot as is. Too many of our recreational spaces are being targeted for commercial development at the expense of our people.

Hands off of the people's space!

That Minister Frederick again, no respect for the law. Everything is gangsta/bad boy style. Why, oh why did Sir John succumb to the internal flambeau pressure and impose this monster into our party/Cabinet against his initial better judgement. He must be spinning around in his grave. God help St. Lucia.

When country-bookies are in charge, this happens. Expediency has its costs. Compton done dead and gone already. We the living are paying dearly for the lack of foresight of a senile and very old stupid Vencentian.

It is our right as St. Lucians to protest the actions of politicians who simply are recklessly leading our country. It doesn't matter if it is Frederick, King, Tom Chou etc let's protest the reckless actions of our so-called leaders.

The green space must stay and simply should not be tampered with by greedy-Joes.

Good for the DCA, that is one of the most logical, succinct letters I have seen lately. The space is way too small for that proposal. Possibly the first letter was the result of some slightly greased pockets ...

Is this for real or is this a joke?Have the players lost every sense of reasoning?I do not understand what is happening in this country but I know some thing is definitely wrong. Can some one tell me this is not happening and its just a dream. Please help, this is too absurd to be real.

Richard Frederick again!! For all we know that bar and cafe that are being proposed to be built is his.

There is nothing positive coming from that ministry and that man, Richard Frederick. He operates as a gang-star would!!

God, take him out of the mud, but surely can't take the mud from his toes!!

Why would a Minister go totally against his line staff?

It can be seen from the Rejection letter that the Board took all matters into consideration and gave valid reasons for rejecting the proposal.

Now can the Minister give us the factors he took in consideration and where he thinks the Board got it wrong?

Perhaps the DCA Board should resign and let the Minister decide all applications as he obviously considers them incompetent.

Nasty!

Thoroughly, maliciously and disgustingly nasty is this man, Richard Frederick.

That is nothing new, we are acustom this by now, this incompetent gang of bad boys have had scandals after scandals from day one up to now. A whole 5 yr term of scandals. There are so many scadals, some of us cannot even remember all of them. The good thing about all that is, they only remain 8 months maximum in office, never to be seen again.

It seems to me that everyone is missing the point here...after 1979 indepencence the govt asked young st.lucian artists to come up with a design for a National Monument which by Cabinet Conclusion would be errected in that very green space that RF wants to make more money. As a young art student Alwyn St.Omer won the competition and his piece an abstract Amazona versicolor bird in flight was chosen. This same piece of land was made larger by Keir International (who were building the Waterfront government Buildings at the time)by laying bolders and topsoil as it was just a very small promentory when the road was laid. A booklet published by the Ministry of Education and Culture in September 1988 entitled The National Symbols of Saint Lucia has on page 10 a picture of the proposed sculpture (a photo of the model made by Alwyn St.Omer while a student in Jamaica) superimposed on the green space. So, is Saint Lucia going to allow RF to overturn a UWP government cabinet conclusion again? Taking away another of our heritage sites? Come on people this site belongs to you and so does the monument...the plans of which are sitting on Irvin John's desk right now!

This site has been ear-marked for the National Monument for some years now. In fact I heard on a talk show today that Alwyn St Omer won the competition for the monument. In fact Alexis Felix and Alyn won jointly.

Alexis Felix said...

Further comments:Alexis Felix won on basis of site selection and base of monument. Alwyn's sculpture for superstructure proved probibitive to construct--hense has not been built.

correction: "prohibitive"

Most of these comments are good but are we moving the country backwards when we call people "country-bookie"..almost sounds like racism. The person who alluded to this may have self-inflicted a wound on himself for many of our top decision-makers have roots in the countryside; St Lucia is too small for this foolishness

Saint Lucians have the government they deserve. A ghetto government for a ghetto people.

If only we had learnt to set standards for ourselves and our beautiful Saint Lucia, we never would have been in this predicament.

How so sad, my country makes me feel.

There is NEVER a right way to do bobol!!! No right hand or left hand in this. It is plain wrong wrong wrong!!!!! this stinks of nepotism, cronyism and the lists goes on; oh my word well with all that plus the grynberg affair, plus Consulate office in the US throwing us out, general elections will be further delayed!!!!! the constitution will be amended until December 2012 haha

Jesus heavenly father I call upon you today in a very special way to relieve my country of Richard Fredrick. Let the menace that he is lord find another place to carry out his evil deeds. Lord this man continues to destroy our country and its people with no regard for our future and our children's future. Lord lay your hand upon this man and show him the path of wisdom and good sense. Teach him to understand the hurt and pain that he causes our country and bring peace at his door in your good name I pray. Amen.

About this monument competition , I recall Alexis Felix won the Site landscape design and the Site selection which was part of the competition brief. Felix's monument design symbolized a huge beacon/light which was great but the judges preferred Alwyn's grandiose sculpture--St Lucia on the Move.. That was great too but was not easy to construct. So the judges were in a dilemma and gave both designers first prize.

In my view of this matter i would say the new park which was just built was there to replace it.I say this was smart move but why land of the new park sold to built the bar and cafe? As tricky salesman would say for the right price and cut for me on the side it can be done.

If walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it's a duck!!!

RF is the purest form of country-bookie there is on the island. He looks like one. He acts like one. He dresses like one. He thinks like one. Therefore, he is a country-bookie. Pure and simple.

Now he as the real leader of the other country-bookies have given us country-bookie government. Now if you love country-bookie government, you have nothing to complain about but those who criticise country-bookies that make us this UWP so-called government. Now go ahead and choke!

Umm ... Anon #3 ... what is a "Vencentian"?

After reading all the comments ... St Lucians have spoken!! Leave the spot alone; it has already been earmarked to construct a national monument.

To reiterate Stan Bishop (the first blogger on this page) "Leave that spot as is"!!

It seems it is already clear cut, that RF's approval for a chicken and rum entity will NOT be forthcoming at any time. Thank goodness for that.

The park is OURS!!

Listen Frederick and you lot of crooks, there is a Cabinet decision as far back as 1988,when this sight was named"Monument Park," and was to house our National Monument. There was a competition organized so that the best concept of our monument will be chosen. Mr Alwin St.Omer won the competition. A miniature monument was produced and was on display on the sight. There was a committee appointed by cabinet to source funds to help the government pay for the full size monument-the public sector assisted in the funding effort which was spearheaded by the late Fitz Louisy. Dotish PM King was at the cabinet meeting in 1988 when all of this was done.It was even agreed that our national tree the "CALABASH" should be planted on this sight-thus the trees you see there now.
For these crooks to now give it to some foreigner to open a restaurant is"Defying a Cabinet conclusion." That must have Compton and Lansiquot turning in their graves!!
Another problem with this is that-when permission to build is rejected, the minister concerned should take the matter to the cabinet where it should be discussed and if approved the cabinet secretary would notify the relevant permanent secretary who in turn notify the client that "Cabinet has approved the project" no where does it say that the minister or the Chairman of the DCA must notify the client. That is our law!!!!

Doh mine de spelling. Dis is de same man dat took you all for a huge ride. He kick out real St. Lucians replacing them with broomsticks and more foreigner like Mallet dat you all vote for.

He give you false independence, and named every new place or development in St. Lucia after him after he came into power. You prideless St Lucians without no self-esteem call him father of the country.

He even try to change the name of the country. Imagine dat a foreigner telling you how to spell the name of your own country!

He left one of his goonish country-bookie broomsticks, Richard Fredericks and simpleton King as our inheritances to beat our stupid St. Lucian tails each and every day. Now de whole caribbean laughing at us idiots in an idiot country.

Anonymous said...

Are we crazy in St.Lucia? This is ridiculous for anyone in their right mind to request this area for a bar/cafe.

Minister Richard Frederick, I will not criticize your work but I will say that this is one of the worst decisions you made by granting permission for this craziness. D.C.A has made a very good decision NOT to sell out this spot and hope this decision stays.

To all those trying to kill our country slowly but surely STOP! You guys are MURDERERS of our country's BEAUTY.

Where did the uwp guys come from must be from 'planet-i-don't-know' because no planet that is named would want to have this guys as nationals or citizens.

Please St. Lucians give these uwp guys back to the planet 'planet-i-don't know' because their ride is taking us nowhere but to hell country.
