My heart goes out to the parents of this child. Its even more distressing when the view is that you can be immunised against the Dengue however not here in St. Lucia, could this childs death have been avoided? The goverment should be buying the stuff and then make sure that all children are given the 'jab'.

Here we go again ... relying on the Government when THE MINISTRY has advised the public on how to protect themselves against the mosquito which carries this dreaded disease.

If this is the only recourse available now ... and not the vaccine, at least the general public has been notified, and this is a much cheaper, and more effective method than a vaccine (vaccines might not do the trick!!).

To Anon above ... get your head out of the sand, and help protect yourself and your family against mosquitoes which carry the dengue virus!! Take the precaution advised by the government.

Cheap! Fast! Effective!!

(Reuters) - The world's first trial of a dengue fever vaccine being developed by France's Sanofi Pasteur and due for release in 2014 has seen "very promising" results in Thailand, a specialist involved in the tests said on Friday.
.................

See how LONG we would have to wait for a dengue fever vaccine?

whiles it is true that it is a situation that needs greater attention,
This goverment has failed to put mechanism in place to meet the challenges.
Frankly this goverment is not prepared for no kind of disaster to face this country.
We only need ourselves to blame, Because we send little children to do adults job.
And the prime minister has not shown leadership to deal with tough issues facing fair helen.
We are definitely in a sad state of affair, and how people follow these blind leaders to a ditch.

perhaps Doc Frederick should have been honest with the population from the beginning instead of downplaying the incidence of Dengue Fever in SLU.

Something must be done to control the mosquito population and breeding, it's not about chasing down some vaccine
