Step-HOpe---same old thing- Burrow money and more money for false sense of jobs.

You couldn't have said it better.

Government at work. While STEP may not seem like a lot, the opportunity to earn some money will help some individuals who have been unemployed for a long time. When one has nothing, every little bit counts.

Then we may as well go around the country and give everyone 100 bucks for Christmas--

The poor people of St. Lucia may finally get an "En Rouge" Christmas.

And what happens after Christmas...misery?

For five long years there was no christmas in St Lucia. Alas some have the guts to criticize a programme that I know has helped some persons get permanent jobs

I'm happy that this program will be able to help some people. I'm sure they will be appreciative of the help. It doesn't seem like this is a program just for the Christmas season so I'm expecting that people will continue to work and earn a living.

What is the price tag to the our country. Why not seek to create real jobs instead of fake ones with strings attached?

People need to understand the real meaning and significance of the STEP PROGRAMME. As I understand it, it's an opportunity for the less fortunate job seekers among the unemployed to have an opportunity to earn some decent wages so as to enable them to pay for the needs of life at their homes and families.

Nonetheless, there needs to be some form of sustainability and continuance in the projects undertaken. It should be be an ideal opportunity to brighten up our roasides with the planting of ornamental plants and flowers as well as followup programmes for their maintenance.

Some people will critizise, Because its in their nature too.
Thank god this goverment is taking the right approach, Because too many st lucians were hurting,
The Uwp Gave their inexperience contracts and they in turn hire the very poor people with low wage and go home with all the bacon.
You tell me if this was right, and now you have a goverment who is looking for the welfare of its citizen and you have people who complain and critizies,
Misery Loves company.

There are thousands of persons in our little Saint Lucia for whom the scourge of unemployment is all too real. These people need immediate soulagement and this should be beyond criticism. The elitist, don't care attitudes of thos who can smugly say "create real jobs" is nothing but dishonest diatribe.

The Labour Party did in its last two terms, created the so-called real jobs and reduced unemployment from about 26% to under 14% by engaging the local private sector and attracting Foreign Direct Investment; and it will do so again.

It is not a question of either STEP or more permanent jobs. The two are designed to complement each other. One component of the programme will be to provide job experience and training for persons who can then fit in to more permanent jobs - right alongside the skills training programmes which the SLP initiated in its last term.

So let the nay sayers, heartless elitists admit that they are bankrupt of ideas to deal with unemployment - weren't they the ones who stopped it and then crept back with the half-baked HOPE which was primarily designed for party supporters?

Right on Dr. Anthony!

I have a job and to my surprise the people who are in the STEP Program are actually making more in one day's work than i do. In a matter of 5 days they make more than half my salary and i've been working one job for 3 yrs. now, and no i'm not a janitor if that's you might be thinking. Looks like i need to join STEP for the christmas, Then i'll be able to buy a ham.
