All St. lucians (from Michael Chastanet , the doctors, the lawyers and bankers to the malaway) care about is that money flows from the coffers of Government.
They do not care if it comes from taxes or from borrowing. They do not care that in the short run it may mean that the Government does not go bankrupt but that in the medium and long run it stifles growth and makes the debt situation dangerous and unhealth for the country.
As long as Massa Kenny and Phillip can keep spending your money then everything is Ok. That is why there is no protest and no clamour because that is how civil servants get paid and how the doctors can charge $150 for each visit.
the new paradigme is that FREEDOM = FREENESS ans whoever can give the freeness is the winner.

VAT is just one more way to screw the citizens so that Kenny and Phillip can act like "fairy princesses" and wave the magic wand to pour more money into the economy! So Kenny will just come out to fool the people into believing that they wanted and approved of VAT and then with the complicity of the media will discuss price gouging or how the rest of the OECS want us to save ourselves by implementing VAT or any other number of red herrings to let us continue just living off borrowed money .
The point is that St. Lucia like Greece, like the UK, like the USA and like all the other Caribbean countries is on the path to fiscal and societal ruin.
The point is not "if" but "when". 2013 or 2017 - who knows? What we do know is that like a good rat Kenny Davis Anthony will jump ship in the only rowboat just before ship Fair Helen sinks and hand the captaincy to Phillip "The Clueless" Pierre!
In the USA, Obama will chalk up another US$1 trillion deficit for 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016 and the Republicans who long ago have given up fighting for fiscal sanity will just want tp save their jobs in Washington DC so will increase the debt ceiling by $2.4 trillion and print more dollars through the Federal Reserve and act as if this has no consequence.
Kenny will borrow %500 -$800 million this year and $450 million next year and no one will make any real noise. Where is the Chamber of Commerce? Where is the silent Catholic Church talking about the burden being placed on the heads of future generations - a burden that cannot realistically be paid!
Quite frankly the only thing to do is wait for the inevitable. When the crunch comes we all fall down. I hope the Leos and Skeetes and Phillips have put aside enough money for that day !
