New call center to boost employment

This is funny (or sad. How gullible Saint Lucia have became. In today's market the following seems to come out of a wishful dream:“Here is a situation where we’re hoping to get as many as 300 people with a starting salary that will be in the range of $1400 to $1600 a month, which is one of the reasons why as a government, we went out of the way to get this thing going."
Does anyone look at the ongoing pay rate of call center? Does anyone understand the concept of outsourcing? Di anyone bother to check why call center are migrating in INDIA and South America...?
Where is reality check now a day? This salary is not the average one of 300 or so potential employees. This represents the potential salary, based on a flat salary + commission. The amount of commission needed for this to reach potential salary will be your surprise.
This endeavor is another SCAM… USA (the original base for this business) will no longer permit marketing calls to individual if listed on a “No Call List”. Canada has joined this process. In short, any company calling individuals for marketing purposes is liable of a heavy fine if reported. HOW DOES THIS SOUND NOW…? This company is fleeing USA to avoid any issue if they breach the laws.
Call centers… INDIA- average salary … you need to check it out.. and for references, the average salary for call center agent jobs in Cincinnati, OH is $44,000USD$/year. So why do you think this company comes to you… because gullible Saint Lucian are going for this new MASTER, a good job for pennies. Slavery is gone, working for pennies is here, under the blessing of Rufus Bousquet… You make me laugh… (or cry)

So the entire point of your diatribe is that companies outsource because of cheap labour?

What else is new? We should be thanking Americans for making labour so expensive in their country that companies have to outsource, in the process generating employment and income in other countries, such as ours, in order to remain competitive.

Now you do some more research and realize that as a result of all the call centres being outsourced to India there is a growing middle class and the standard of living is going up.

Now excuse me whiles I continue to browse the Internet from my affordable laptop made with parts by cheap labour from China.

The first poster is talking pure crap. That is good news. The money might not be great, but its better than having 300 St. Lucians doing crime to survive.

I dont get what the first person who commented is babbling about but with unemployment in slu pretty high, a low salary and a boring job would be preferable by some ppl than no job at all.

You have made some good points here however companies no longer outsouce for cheap labor as laws have changed a bit and outsourcing kills the economy which is why many US companies have returned home. Rather companies outsource to escape regulation. Honestly a call center would provide job opportunities for many however I think an inbound technical call center would be more desirable. Give the graduates of DTEMS with electrical / IT skills an opportunity. For the number of graduates or students who complete the two years there are merely not enough job places available for them. Let's try to get Dell or Compaq, Samsung or Nokia.

Garbage, tons of garbage.
Call centers could hve been in St. Lucia back in 1993 or 1995.

Now via Internet, call center workers could work from their home connected to the server for incoming or outgoing calls, whatever they do, and don't have to go from Mark, Bexon to Union for entry-level salary.

Zeigy, I see you still have our unique St.Lucian sense of humor. This world would be a better place if everybody used a little bit every now and then.
