Blind leading the blind.

A non entrepreneural, non risk taking set of shopkeepers meeting with a Big Government, tax , borrow and spend incompetent who failed for 9 years and has come back with the same inept mindset.

What good can come from that !

I disagree.

Kenny Anthony is an innovator. What other country has sex pests in the government?

Now that's risk taking!!!!

Our Business class as in the rest of the Caribbean are a peculiar lot created out of our colonial past.
Only interested in their buying and selling shopkeeping they are happy once a government keeps things "quiet" and "stable" as long as this business class stays on top.

From Haiti to Guyana they relish their role at the top of the pyramid and care not about the rest of the country as long as everything is "stable" and the government can borrow enough for them to double the prices on imports and feed off of the mass of the people.

So Kenny (the tax and borrow Big government liberal) is a good fit with the incompetent and inept business class who actually do not want too much expansion since it means they will have to compete with others.

If the major goal is to make Saint Lucia a better place to do business, then this is one of the most foolish goals to pursue.

This is a sad reflection of the depth of thinking of the group of glorified petty shopkeepers referred to in St. Lucia as businesspeople in St. Lucia.

You mean to say that this is the end all and the be all after the departure of truckload of jackasses called the UWP?

What a waste of time! There was absolutely no incentive given to government, nor any greater sense of direction articulated here that required the cooperation or greater level of effort by that private sector body.

The level of shallowness of thinking on the part of those assembled is nothing short of shockingly amazing!

We therefore can expect another five years of same BS talk? So it is business as usual then. The Chamber of Commerce is full of it.

i like what anon #6 said our local biz ppl are thrifty and non risk takers.. it probably a post slavery mentality..I am hoping Dr.KA will mention the daher hypermart at bois d'orange i have yet to hear him speak on that althogh i am out of island for now.. why dont he propose to those whom he met at the chamber of commerce meeting to pass the word out that, that building could be a boost to fueling economic growth in the north as both an entertainment and department store and mall setting.. we dont have much indoor entertainment and that building is ideal and its location as well

The gov need to scrap that uwp idea of moving gov offices in that building. SLP gov should try to sell that daher blg to either partner with a group of local investors or regional investors..etc.. that place is as big as baywalk maybe even bigger i think.. we could get a bowling alley in there,a nightclub/lounge shops, furniture store[NOT COURTS]gym,banks,apartments-[target local families]-hotel inn, and we def need a modern department store which we dont have in stlucia at present..there is parking in front and below that building incase some ppl dont know that..Do anyone agree with me ..The SLP-GOV dont want to keep paying for a building they never intended to buy and now they are stuck with it.. the best thing is to sell it or lease it and perhaps allow 2 years after it opens to start collecting monthly fees, interests etc allowing some breathing space for the new investors..in so doing investors can see it as a viable deal even if we the tax payers lose money in daher bldg we can try to generate spending and employment.we need more shopping centres

The chatter in New York is sad but true... I was in a travel agent last week & overheard the sales rep advise her customers against going to St Lucia due to 'rumors' about the Tourism Minister. The couple chose Barbados instead.

I guess that Kenny thought that the negativity wouldn't go further than St Lucia's shores, but with the internet there are no more boundaries. Hope he nominates somebody else soon, there are many great St Lucians to choose from.

Courage Belle Hélène, better days will come when Kenny corrects this mistake...

Wow...

My cousin and her best friend were gang rape while camping on Grand Anse beach located on the north-east coast of St Lucia in May of 2011. Seven local men were detained soon after the assault, which took place just before midnight on May 10. All were immediately released without facing any criminal charges. What kind of message is Prime Minister Kenny Anthony is send women visitors to the island when he appoints two know rapists to his cabinet?

The last time I check Freedom of speech in the United States is protected by the First Amendment to the United States Constitution and by many state constitutions and state and federal laws, with the exception of obscenity, defamation, incitement to crime, and fighting words, as well as harassment, privileged communications, trade secrets, classified material, copyright, patents, military conduct, commercial speech such as advertising, and time, place and manner restrictions.
Keep in mind St. Lucia has not become an all communist/Marxist state although this appears to be the objective of Kenny Anthony aka Dr. Evil!
So Sir every one still have a right to free speech!

@ Better Days ahead

Your comment is a fair one; the article does indeed discuss the Chamber of Commerce and the ease of doing business in St Lucia.

As such, the influence of government ministers on the business community is materially relevant.

The fact remains that the Tourism Minister's background is harming arrivals. This is of serious concern to hoteliers, taxi drivers, market traders and anybody who benefits from tourism, the largest single contributor to GDP.

You also discuss the importance of ideas. Here is one: replace the Minister of Tourism with a fine, honorable member of the Labour government. The wonderful Emma Hippolyte for example, or Pip.

Local or interntational the truth and the facts should never be ignore for example:

Had the US Embassy in Bridgetown done their home work to investigate Ausbert D’auvergne background during the period he was providing false information on Richard Fredricks, to American Law enforcement agents, they would have discover he was not credible, while he himself was engaged in criminal activities to include money laundering with a drug king pin.

Riley Graham who is presently serving 200 years on a conviction of the distribution and selling of cocaine, crack cocaine and money laundering in the United States, used to send large sums of his dirty money to ‘an associate in Saint Lucia which turns out to be Mr. Ausbert D’auvergne, according to federal court records in Atlanta.

Mr. Graham established several businesses in the United States that were used as fronts to engage in the distribution and the selling of crack cocaine, cocaine and money laundering activities. Two of these companies were Paragon Construction Management Services and Genesis Limited. In Saint Lucia Mr. Ausbert D’auvergne was the owner/manager of Paragon Construction Management Services and Genesis Limited.

While testifying under oath on February 27, 2007in the trial of Christopher Alcindor his first cousin and Cheryl Denny his sister, Mr. Ausbert D’auvergne admits his direct connection to a master drug criminal.
Senior US law enforcement officials are now asking why Mr. D’auvergne was never indicted as co-conspirator, and most importantly, why did the US embassy in Barbados allow it self to be hoodwink by such a sophisticated criminal?
