As I was reading the headline I said to myself...good the SLP government is off to a good start, however as I continued to read the Labor Code, it became a laboring task of reading bones but no meat on a piece of toilet paper. There is absolutely very little in that Labor Code that is of any benefit to the worker....more importantly where is the law that will guarantee a worker an HOURLY MINIMUM WAGE, where is the statute that standardized the minimum working age for our citizens, where is the law that will guarantee the workers a proper working condition/enviroment, where is the law that would allow a worker to sue the employer as a result of sexual harassment or discrimination.

Will it have safeguards such as to be paid what is earned and to be paid on time, is there provision for various types of leave, eg sickness, maternity, paternity etc. Is there a 'code of conduct' for both sides to adhere to.
I hope women get equal pay, and that there is a health & Safety aspect to safe working practices. Will it be trailed for the public to give further opinion.
I worry that this like everything else on the island will be adopted and ignored with no safeguards for the worker. The usual response for any complaint to the Labour Dept is to tell you to take 'them to court'. Like most civil servants they 'can't' be bothered. In my book support is usually given to the employer and not justice for the worker.

Over their 5 years in administration. The UWP systematically butchered the labout code to a point where it no longer holds any safeguards for workers. Passing it as it is will only create economic chaos. However I suppose that it is difficult for the Anthony Administration to take on both VAT and the Labour code as both entail consequences for employers. If they implement this as is, I predict that it will create an industrial relations crisis later on in their first term in office. God help St. Lucians. The current code leaves the economy open to large employers who game the system to force government to act in their interests and against the interests of the entire economy.

Why blame employers when they are together. The corporate body in any nations runs the show. Its the ignorant buffoons on this islands who stand to lose especially when they are the biggest spies for the corporate interest and the biggest ass kissers. On top of this they fight they own colleagues down at the expense of kissing up to the corporate interest. This labour code in its present form is the last stick shoved in the anus of stlucians next to VAT...
