Employee Development- Luxury or Necessity?

The reality is that many businesses in SLU function in the absence of objective HR managers. Too many of our business people regard HR development as a stumbling block to their autocratic management styles.
Many fear that the only difference between them and competent staff is their ability to attract funding from commercial banks. It's a scenario similar to the threat of foward integration. Managers therefore hoard vital information contained in annual reports. The fear is that if the staff were to get an accurate picture of revenue generation and expenditure, then managers could be held ransom for wage increases.
The relationship between employers and their staff is guided by fear and mistrust, rather than mutual respect.
