Grumbling over scholarships

Nothing irks me more than an ingrate. Some people don't know how lucky they are to have had such opportunities.

However, an agreement works both ways--parties are duty bound to hold up their end of the bargain. The government can't agree to do something in good faith and renege on its promise at the last minute. Somebody had to have known that these students were returning home. There must've been budgetary allocations in anticipation of travel costs.

Even infrequent travelers know that it is best to purchase airline tickets months in advance of expected departure. Emergency tickets are sometimes double, if not triple, the original cost. Considering that slip-up cost the state upwards of $200,000, who dropped the ball? Don't make promises you can't keep.

Earl, your boss denied me the opportunity to study overseas. He was in a position then to make that decision. I paid my way through school and attained the masters degree. I have returned home to make a contribution to national development! There are many like me....

Earl King of Apologists! Come off it! Even if everything were for 'free', that doesn't mean that it must be accompanied by some kind of hardship for it to be considered that, or to be qualified as 'free'.

Then, there is continuous improvement. Sorry! I forgot. You are part of the mediocrity-thinking majority.

Even things considered already good enough, should be improved.

That is how Toyota and Honda kept good enough American cars in the dust on the world market.

The Japanese have a mindset of keep on improving things as part of their cultural habit or norm.

For Saint Lucians, each and any old thing will do. We are such losers when it comes quality.

So why the hell must Saint Lucians not grumble for improvement?

Is it not about time to stop supinely accepting rubbish from stupid people?

Are we as stupid as some people who design a system for others such as the CSME, and neglect and fail to put mechanisms in place AT HOME to take any advantage of it?

It is almost like selling the house and living in the kitchen.

Little wonder since that report, and we went on to support it with King as PM, some say around the Caribbean that Saint Lucia is idiot country.

Earl don't you think they and/or their parents and other relatives pay tax? On the other hand you and others who think like you only collect. You still grumble! See how you "grumbled" for the house you got almost gratis from government. Where is the evidence that you paid a fair share of tax when you worked for government?

Earl was never, ever, material for any scholarship. This fact has caused him to deny and criticize those who may be so entitled and deserving.

This Article just STINKS. And I suspect so does its writer.

We pay taxes not for the government to hand it joyfully to foreign concerns by signing away on foolish contracts that make us lose money Frenwell and NCA, lose our lands like Black Bay, and pay enormous sums for satisfying the ego of the PM like Grenberg.

Only yardfowls with low self-esteem support such SH***

If you, Earl, have no university education how can you determine eligibility for study scholarship? It is no wonder that there are so many misfits in the system. How sad!

As i struggling Lucian student over seas,I say bravo to this article. Those grumbling students need to be thankful for the opportunity given ti them. there are many other St .Lucian students struggling and starving their way through school with no guarantee of a job after. The only difference between us and the Grumblers are Bank of St Lucia will accept no excuses from us.

Saint Lucians basically and deeply hate anyone who breaks through the barriers of the higher classes by raising their standard of living through hard work or education. They would do just about anything, or say just about anything attempting to disguise this confounding national character flaw. Just face it, own up to it, and change it. You God damn reprobates. Stop acting like you just dropped off the God damn slave ship.

Bravo to spell checks and proper punctuation too. Since you're obviously in the habit of praising inanimate objects. @ May 3, 1:58PM

A subtle piece of hostile writing to those want to achieve.

There are so many ignorant, uneducated, unsophisticated and plain dumb people in Saint Lucia, that to place further stumbling blocks in the way of those who want to learn would be to exacerbate an already looming national disaster.

The Haitians destroyed their educated elite. Up to today, they haven't yet recovered from that murderous backward move.

The truth always seems to offend. I am the first to admit that we St Lucians like everything free. We grumble about VAT because for some it's the first time they are ever made to pay any taxes. We grumble about payment of a oneway ticket back to our country when all other surmountable expenses have been free. We like everything for free. It's about time we make a collective contribution for the betterment of our economy (country).

Now we have people grumbling with others who find discomfort in the way they are being treated regarding be repatriated after trying to increase our pool of knowledge.

Envy is such a deep-seated part of our national culture.

Our peasants and peasant-minded have never come short of excuses, nor have they lost lost the habit of peasants to simply hate and seek to destroy anyone who happens to do better in life than them through their genuine hard work and persistence.

Hats off to those who have gone and made/or are making a productive contribution to the St.Lucia society. We as a people need to frre ourselves from Slavery. Nothing in life is free.Too many scholarships are been granted to those persons who can afford to and the underpriviledge childen are left to work to send themselves to school. They are usuually the ones who appreciate what it is that they were able to achieved because sometimes it didnt come easy.
