Somewhere in the archives of history someone said that: "there is only one thing in the world worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about."

The meeting of the Taiwanese Foreign Minister and his delegation is all preliminary and formal in protocol; but curious minds want to know how soon will Tom Chou give the accountability of funds sheltered covertly to the last government and so we Lucians can discharge him with the dishonor of "persona non grata" profile.

Happy New Year to all Bloggers!

". . . Republic of China, also expressed his continued support to the social and economic development in St. Lucia, and exchanged views with Prime Minister Anthony and Minister Baptiste regarding the priority of the projects of the new government and issues of mutual concern. Minister Yang also invited the Prime Minister to provide the Republic of China (Taiwan) with his new government’s national development plan, itemized and prioritized, for further discussion."

Since our relationship with Taiwan is mainly about politics - St Lucia ALWAYS has to vote for Taiwan in the UN – this time we need to ask them for what we really need and not just accept more of the little handouts they have given us in the past. Hopefully, this time we'll ask them to finance a couple major projects like: (i) the Castries-Vieux Fort Tunnel-Highway and/or a Light Rail system and (ii) 150-200 miles of well-made and safe mountain highways throughout the island; and we will take care of redeveloping HIA and setting up the Soufriere geothermal energy project. These essential projects would immediately draw many investors to our shores and create thousands of jobs.

I REALLY HOPE TAIWAN LEAVES BECAUSE CHINA DOESNT REALLY HAVE ANY INTEREST IN US. FOR A BROKE NATION IN A BROKE ENVIRONMENT, IT WOULD BE INTERESTING TO KNOW HOW OUR ECONOMY WILL FAIR GIVEN THE HIGH EXPECTATION PROFILED BY KENNY AND COMPANY. KENNY YOU NEED TO TELL STLUCIANS THE TRUTH BEFORE ITS TOO LATE…….

to ANON..10:37 AM... Our relationship with taiwan is mainly about agriculture.. I realised this time around taiwan stepped up if the ex-minister guy joseph is right and his figure of $120 million handed over to uwp over the last five yrs from taiwan is significant in my view the only question is where did all that money go .. AND I REALLY WANT TO SEE SOMEONE GO TO JAIL ...HOPE IN MY LIFETIME.. trinidad does it to their corrupt bureacrats...

it would be niec to see a major project or 2 coming from a rich nation like taiwan or china as to those you pointed out .. apart from the geothermal energy in soufriere i think souf..vfort.. and all the fishing villages should be given long over due attention esp if we want to market village tourism we need to create cobblestone villages with street lamps and not lamp posts with all those ugly wires overhanging in our small villages .. those villages need much beautification and painting and flowering gardens stuff like that ... ESP SOUFRIERE our tourist hub ask taiwan or china to finance these small ventures its prob gonna cost like 60 million to dress up our towns and villages with parks etc.. we need to stop showing our tourists how poor our villlages are they always blog about it i read trip advisor often enough

Blogger @ 7:31AM, I very much like your ideas about beautifying our towns and villages, and developing our village tourism. However, I still insist that our roads and all aspects of our transportation system need to be immediately improved, because their present deplorable condition stands disastrously in the way of any progress being made in St Lucia; as does the worn-out, outmoded, and no longer up-to-standard HIA.

Our roads and highways could be adequately fixed with 200-300millionUS$s: a small amount for the Taiwanese to help us with. Taiwan is very rich: it has the world’s 5th largest foreign reserves, valued at US$400,000 million, i.e., 400BILLION US DOLLARS!!!!!

Additionally, the Taiwanese are particularly good at engineering mountainous roads because their own island is as mountainous as our own. They would do the best job for us.

to anon= 9:19PM.. i like your brilliant contribution. I too am an avid advocate for a superior transportation system and an int'l road network system-one that will propel stlucia way into the next century. i was thinking based on the financing and construction of the road redevelopment in DOMINICA at present which is almost done now. it costing THE CHINESE $100 MIL.ECD.not withstanding cost overruns so i was thinking that a road network stretching from vieux fort to cas en bas might cost around $200MIL..USD.. perhaps stlucia can take a loan of a $100mil.USD and if we do keep the taiwanese they could finance the other 100mil.USD..

AS you indicated the taiwanese terrain and experience is similar to ours and they have the know how and the money to back that up.. we need nothing less than a 4lane road network. perhaps even a railway line which is much cheaper and easier to maintain. lets think future i think slp can negotiate for that and that could take 6yrs to build

OH i 4got to mention that in dominica which is bigger than stlucia from roseau to melville hall airport is like from vieuxfort to castries so i think either CH OR TW.. can build us a road its not impossible..

When it comes to our transport system i propose we introduce 25-40 seater buses @ 4 MAJOR BUS TERMINALS-city/towns FOR EXAMPLE.. gros islet -castries route to reduce on all those mini buses clogging the hwy at peak hours..and we could have buses running the castries-vieuxfort route at every hour so minibuses can ply this route between those times so everyone benefits and minibuses needs to be stattioned at every major community/villages to take ppl into their areas

Lastly the buses should be targeting the towns and u take a shuttle bus to villages etc.. SO WE HAVE A NORTH ROUTE , EAST ROUTE ,WEST ROUTE... esp buses going down to soufriere ppl wouldnt have to take individual buses to laborie or canaries or anse la raye u take a bus going to soufriere and if u go further past soufrier u take a shuttle mini bus to choiseul etc.. makes sense BUS PROBLEMS SOLVED..

Infastructure development assistance is the way forward. China has its eyes on the prize: to take over Taiwan. And if we are to help prevent this outcome, let us make use of this mutural cooperation.Taiwan is happy,St.Lucia is happy.Ah,what a relationship!

Excellent ‘Mr.Better Days’, I totally agree with all your suggestions. Maybe people like us should be running the nation, seriously! – NOT politicians; because most of them are NEVER truly concerned with the nation and its people. They selfishly and greedily crave ONLY two things - MONEY and POWER.

Interesting to read and follow this as I have witness the sour fruit of Taiwan become the sweet apple. Nonetheless, I must acknowledge this blog has been the healthiest I have read in along time as we are not trading insults at each other over the two Chin's issue but is expressing how we can use it to our advantage.
Keep it up my people.

Do not worry Taiwan.

Kenny has already decided to stay with you.

If you know the person you will realize that your method of disbursing funds is entirely to his liking. As you know he has already promised PRIOR TO ELECTIONS to stay with you and you may even have already given him money to fight elections.

You will be required to send home Ambassador Chou but that is a small price to pay to keep one of your few diplomatic allies. Kenny requires this as he has said too much about you all and your relationship with the UWP. This is also required for him not to look like a "Kenny and Tony" in dealing with you.

Kenny like money too much not to keep you on but he will play you in the media and in front of St. Lucians to make it seem as if he has not made up his mind and to get as much money out of you as possible.

Your position is safe because Kenny like your style of disbursing money too much.

Some regional jackass says that because of the results of the Taiwanese elections that Kenny will stay with Taiwan.

This is just Caribbean liberals standing up for their own and making up excuses when Kenny admits he is staying with Taiwan - which any sane St. Lucian knew already.

kenny already told the Taiwanese he was staying -even before elections.

His liberal friends are just looking for an excuse for the "kenny and tony" double talk between what he said in Opposition and what he is doing as the Prime Minister.
