Why bother? The idiats in the UWP and their followers have shown that in St. Lucia you do not have to be educated to become prime minister!

It figures. The idiat that was the UWP prime minister surrounded by more idiats like himself said that if you have have a doctorate you are a bush doctor!

See how many other idiats they created?

UWP, party of idiats, party by idiats, and party for idiats.

Very good article.

What passed for leadership in the Ministry of Education over the last five years can best be described as an abysmal failure. It was a symbiotic relationship between a shallow, crass PhD and a bumbling, conniving political figure head. The children of St Lucia were sacrificed at the alter of vulgar self aggrandizement and crass political aspirations.
It was Indeed TOXIC.

Attention should also be paid to the teachers who are put in the classroom. While there are many factors that affect student achievement, the quality of the teacher is one of the most important. We need teachers who are not only knowledgeable, but are empathetic, respectful, hardworking and who will not step out of the teacher role as soon as the bell rings.

So much has been said (negatives)of the PS in the Ministry of Education, however, she is still functioning in that capacity...something is wrong with that picture.

I totally agree. The PS of education brought St Lucia's education system back 10 years. She was and still is so busy being Queen Bee that she virtually destroyed every worthwhile initiative that was suggested by the technocrats in the Ministry.
We need to get some Bug Be Gone to get rid of her.

Seem like the PS at the Ministry of Education is a strong force to be reckoned with. If Dr. Lewis has the gonads he will ensure that either she brings herself on the path towards progress for all or simply replace her with a more competent PS.

I can hear the writer alluding to Paulo Frerie's theory of the 'banking concept of education' where students are seen as repositories/deposit boxes of concepts in education. Knowledge is stored in their minds and later pulled out with no 'interest' on the deposit. It is reproduced as a means to an end, i.e. to succeed at examinations. Are we really educating our students for life?
It is interesting the view on evaluation. The writer examines what passes for evaluation as being quite insufficient. Another very interesting validation is the separation of the Examinations Unit from other crucial departments of the Ministry of Education. We need to revamp the 'modus operendi' of the Ministry if we are to represent quality and proper standards in St. Lucia.
