Come on Victor, what really bothers you is the African identity being played up. We've been taught for so long to despise any identification with the African continent that any effort that seeks to reconnect us with the Motherland is met with scorn and derision.
One more thing Victor, I can still see traces of Africa in your visage. You may be light skin but not enough to deny hints of the Motherland. So go ahead and take pride in your amended blood, but you are still part of the post-slavery African diaspora.
We are all brainwashed to a certain degree. Your article is nothing but colonialism in 21st century thinking - you know, the usual black self-hatred thing.

Victor, white and black racial demographics are the product of racism. There are no black nor white people on this planet. So African-American in terms of ancestral identification is appropriate. So let the Caucesians keep deluding themselves into believing that they are 'white'."let de damn fools feel how they want to feel".Sparrow!

I am responding to this line. "This new respect came when it was borne upon me that they now even managed to invent a new race called African-American."
New? No. I'm a 50 yr old US citizen. When I was in elementary school, kids my age could say "black or Negro". But not nigger. "Black" people can & still do call each other nigger, but take serious offense when a "non-black" uses the word.
Around my teen years, the schools would correct us to say "African American" as a sign of respect. Yes, it sounds odd. I don't walk around calling myself a Dutch-German American.
"African American" is also a choice to pick from when the US Census Bureau sends out the form every 10 yrs. I worked for the Census in 2010. Some people elected to use "African American", some entered their own title. There were many older people who choose to write "Netherlands or Dutch" instead of white.
As for this being a "new" name. No, it's not.

I being a Trinidadian, is also us citizen, I also lived in St Lucia for over five years, I recently went back to the US and applied for a job which I got. I was asked the question of race on the form, I said Westindian of Eastindian origin and an American citizen what should I check? There was no box with other, so he check me as Asian. I could not be bothered, I got the job and was happy and is well respected on my place of employment.

The origin?....from the strugles of the Africans in America to gain respect, dignity and human rights. Look at the plight of the Africans in Brazil today, and you will see that the strugle is not over in this hemisphere.

Amen to that. This piece sites so clearly my thoughts on the whole hyphenated nationality issue. Like the invention of Kwanzaa, it is all form and no substance.

Victor:

You're are obviously one of these antiquated products of white supremacy known as the Negro-Christian; the greatest invention of colonialism. I can visualize a statue of your Naked Caucasian Saviour God hanging over your bed as your wife transfigures you into that Caucasian in your repeated failures to materialize by consecration into that naked white man you both worship.

A Negro like yourself will find great joy and pride participating in the celebration of the Italian- American parade and worship of Christo Columbo, and will dare not “think” of this criminal act as repugnant – enough about a live specimen of the Brain-damaged, brain-washed Negro-Christian, Victor, marooned in 1492.

African-Americans are a special Race where the Hausa, Tutsi, Zulu, Mandingo and the so-called West-Indian gave up Tribalism to become One! The Great African-American People, occupying the most powerful position on the World's Stage today. Only an unconscious Negro like yourself and Mark Henycat would refer to himself as Mixed-up Race, while calling himself “ROMAN” Catholic. O.K. Victor the Mixed-up Roman.

A FEW WAYS TO DETERMINE IF YOU ARE A BRAINWASHED NEGRO:

Brainwashed Negro: A Black individual who has internalized every negative stereotype about Blacks and their culture and is seething with self-hatred and low self-esteem. This person usually believes that the only path to success and true happiness is to marry or assimilate into White culture, hoping to escape the sins of being born Black.

10. If you are still running around claiming that your family has “Indian Blood”, particularly, Cherokee. I wonder why the only Native American tribe some Black folks can name is Cherokee as if Iroquois, Mohicans, Seminoles and others do not exist.
9. If you believe that all Black NBA players are married to White women. Actually, 86% of married African American NBA players are married to Black women.
8. If you deny the African within by stating that your descendants are from the Caribbean. How in the hell did you think all those Black folks ended up on those islands?
7. If you believe that all White people are rich, beautiful, educated  and are endowed with special magical powers.
6. If you tell a dark-skinned Black woman, “You are so pretty to be dark/You're so pretty although you so dark” .
5. If you give an automatic pretty pass to light-skinned women just because they are light-skinned and have long hair.
4. If you refuse to frequent Black-owned businesses because you believe that their services are sub-par as compared to White-owned businesses.
3. If you believe that “Good Hair” consists of hair that is long, flowing and silky; not kinky.
2. If you believe that all educated, wealthy Black men and women are married to people outside their race. As of 2007, only 4.6% of all married Blacks in the United States are married to a White partner or other races.
1. If you make statements such as “Black women have too many problems” or “I cannot find a Black man that is on my level” to justify dating outside your race. There is nothing wrong with interracial dating unless you are using it as a way to escape the deep psychological problems of hatred for one’s race. Perhaps the the problem is not Black people collectively but YOU personally and all YOUR issues and burdens of being Black in America.

Great posts, Son-of-man!

Part of the brainwashing was instilling in our psyche this image of God as a European - the image of Jesus Christ as a blue-eyed European. In other words, through imagery, the oppressors were even able to colonize God and his representatives on earth. Many of us still buy into that crap and will find a black image of Jesus totally repugnant.
I suspect Victor would one of those marshalling his intellectual prowess in defense of the Europeanness/whiteness of God/Christ.

After “marshaling his intellectual prowess in the shameful defence of his Inferiority Complex”, I heard him proclaim, “IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT COLOUR GOD IS.” He never heard your statement, “Many of us still buy into that crap and will find a black image of Jesus totally repugnant.”. Which prompted this question to Victor the Roman: If God's colour is insignificant why then is he always Caucasian/white?

You see Teckler, the Negro Roman is so deluded that he actually thinks that a white/Caucasian Englishman or white American will allow his Caucasian wife and children to kneel and pray to a naked Black African-son-of-God, or teach his Caucasian children to be subservient to a naked, nappy-hair, thick-lip, Blackman – it would be the day of Armageddon before that ever happens.

Try telling that to a mentally ill Negro and you would be putting your life in danger.
