Why are they trying to balance the budget on the backs of the public servants when it is the same darn politicians who waste the money on political favours, stupid and nonsensical investments like Frenwell, BlackBay and Grenburg, in addition to income and treasury transfers to their own political yardfowls with S.T.E.P? Why are the confounded politicians getting a free ride? Why? Why on God's earth? Why?

There is a great deal of revenue gov. can collect that can solve many of our social ills such as drunk driving, littering, cursing in public, exposing one's private parts in public (I witnessed a man exposed his uncircumcised penis on a street in Castries the other day) , speeding on our roads, parking illegally, placing tyres on streets to prevent others from parking legally, deficating and urinating in public, disposing of used condoms on the beach, (incidentally can one tell me what is the best way to dispose of condoms), loud noises above prescribed decibels (do the cops have the instrument yet), etc., etc., etc., etc., etc..gov. can collect. another $40m from etc. alone, I forgot smoking in public, commercial izing sex, etc.

6.15 it all adds up to more taxes. I am for a balance approach, some expenditure reduction and taxes.

@6:15 PM, it takes genuine and real economists, and not amateurs like the lot we have in political office, to get the right mix of policy prescriptions and initiatives. That mix does not come through coercion or the careless and empty rhetoric, the usual fare for our political parties and plain figureheads.

Listen to how largely reticent the UWP has been on the real and concrete issues. Note that IMF prescriptions and recommendations are designed first and foremost to protect bond holders and other financing institutions like itself. Please don't allow yourself to ever swallow the lie that its first priority is the welfare of the borrowing country.
