Josie:

After reading the magnanimous portrayal of yourself, written by yourself, about yourself, I was almost moved to pity, and began feeling remorseful for calling you out for perfidy, sedition, treachery and your daily barrage of calumny directed at Kenny Anthony.

Perhaps I had misjudged you, but before I could shed a tear, you sunk your fangs into the neck of your victim proclaiming your hatred for Dr. Anthony and you continued along the trajectory of my extrapolation – an affectacious Fer-de-lance, calling for unity with the trumpet of division.

“Affectation lights a candle to our defects, and though it may gratify ourselves, it disgusts all others”

Much respect to Peter Josie. You have said what many of us would have loved to say but could not say due to various limitations. I urge you to press on because the large number of silent majority is there with you.

Why don't we remove KDA and put in Peter Josie.

SHAKA ZULU - YOUR HISTORY

If you ask most black people to name three great African leaders they will probably come up with Ramesses, Hannibal and Shaka. Our history is important to us. If we only know the movie versions we are getting a distorted incomplete picture and we are missing out on the lessons of strategy we badly need. Unlike the movie version

Shaka never fought Caucasians, so-called white people. He only fought his own people so many of them thought he was their enemy but in fact he kept them unified against their real enemy. During Shaka’s reign European Settlers were never able move inland beyond the coast lines. The PAC (Pan Africanist Congress) used this strategy with great success. In the 1980’s after years of fighting the racist South African government with little success against their superior firepower the PAC realized they were not losing because they were out gunned but because their enemy had eyes and ears in their communities.

When the PAC concentrated their efforts on weeding out the informants, sellouts and government collaborators that lived amongst them they gained the strategic advantage. This is a lesson I hope Black People all throughout the diaspora learn some day. For another people to oppress you they need help from people amongst you like Josie.

To the People who seek Guidance. Muslims around the World are today observing the Fasting month of Ramadan. The Fasting person will abstain from ALL FOOD AND DRINK including water, including pleasures like sexual intercourse with a spouse for approximately 29 or 30 days. As you can see the Christians fasted in the same manner until they changed God's instruction, so fasting in Lent means you don't eat meat on Fridays but you can full your belly with anything else.

The Fast is observe from the Period before Sunrise known as 'FARJR' to the Sunset. In New York that is from 3:00 AM to 8:30 PM.

From the Qur-an, Surah Al-Baqara

O ye who believe! Fasting is prescribed for you, even as it was prescribed for those before you, that ye may ward off (evil); (183)

(Fast) a certain number of days; and (for) him who is sick among you, or on a journey, (the same) number of other days; and for those who can afford it there is a ransom: the feeding of a man in need - but whoso doeth good of his own accord, it is better for him: and that ye fast is better for you if ye did but know - (184)

The month of Ramadan in which was revealed the Qur'an, a guidance for mankind, and clear proofs of the guidance, and the Criterion (of right and wrong). And whosoever of you is present, let him fast the month, and whosoever of you is sick or on a journey, (let him fast the same) number of other days. Allah desireth for you ease; He desireth not hardship for you; and (He desireth) that ye should complete the period, and that ye should magnify Allah for having guided you, and that peradventure ye may be thankful. (185)

And when My servants question thee concerning Me, then surely I am nigh. I answer the prayer of the suppliant when he crieth unto Me. So let them hear My call and let them trust in Me, in order that they may be led aright. (186)

@ 4.07pm. I suppose it would be too much to ask that we give a man his due. Peter Josie for all his perceived faults was one of a group of men who were the architects of political education of our people in the 60's which benefitted the post colonial masses. Depending on your age you may not have an appreciation of this. There are those who assert that he was a competent Minister of Agriculture when he served in that capacity.
We should not merely seek to vilify .

SOM: I will not disrespect your views as has @2.03pm, but I would suggest that you desist from pushing your new found religious belief on us who may be of a different persuasion. In my humble view the precepts of the prophet Jesus Christ are more suited to humanity than those of the Prophet Mohammed since the former is based on love for your neighbour. Simple but powerful!

We make it look like the island is falling apart when in fact we are in recession just like most other countries were or still are, like we are. Political division and selfishness are keeping us from agreeing on anything to get ourselves out of this bind. In dictatorships swifter action would have been taken because there would be little or no censorship. Countries like the US and UK put measures similar to those we are seeking in place, to reverse their dismal fiscal situations. Barbados is presently seeking to lay off an additional 100 employees, by shrinking programs. The Jamaican dollar is further devalued. The IMF claimed that the dollar is over valued ( $112.4Ja= $ US) and determined that it's a necessary evil which the majority of Jamaicans disagree with. They had made a similar call during the reign of JP and the dollar has never recovered since. The prime minister should go unilaterally if consensus cannot bring us together, for the good of the country.

Mr. Peter Josie, before you point your bony finger of indignation at PM Kenny Anthony have you ever asked yourself what have you done to make the live of St. Lucians better? I can sense your resentment for Kenny not out of ideological differences but out of petty jealousy. Kenny booted you out of the SLP. He ascended to the helm of the party and has governed the country for an extended period while you are consigned to the dustbin of history. Poor Mr. Peter Josie. You had your turn sir, instead you were masquerading as a communist. You know very well that you are an opportunist. And not even a good one. Prime Minister Anthony has out wit you in all endeavors. Why don't you acknowledge his achievements? You will never do it because you are fill with foolish pride. Rather, you prefer to engage in the your familiar clichés to describe PM Anthony: arrogant, heavy handed, etc. Such emptiness form you.

Lastly,if you are really sincere about the state of the economy, what is your recommendation? Do not tell me cut spending. How are you going to resuscitate the sluggish economy? I look forward to your insightful commentary, Mr. Peter Josie.

@12.16 Josies record will be judged in time to come, just as Kennys. The difference is that Josie hasn't crippled the economy with hundreds of millions of debt. Are you saying that Kenny hasn't acted in a high handed manner?

Cutting spending is necessary, everyone knows it does. The IMF says it and all the other nations are cutting back. Why do the rules of economics not apply to st lucia? Over to you......

"Cutting spending is necessary, everyone knows it does. The IMF says it and all the other nations are cutting back." Quite a compelling argument, however, it begs the question. Let us examine the facts and evidences and forget ideology. It may sound counter-intuitive but countries that spend in times of economic stagnation fare better than countries that don't. Case in point, the United States spent over $800 billions to avert a depression. It stimulated its economy by engaging in deficit spending. Similarly, there was no serious economic contraction in the German economy because it continues to spend on infrastructure. Brazil economy grew by 8% in 2009 despite the world recession. What did Brazil do differently? It went on a spending spree. It invested billions in social programs and infrastructure. And I can go on and on. Conversely, Britain cut spending and it is currently experiencing a double dip recession. Its growth is anemic. Its last quarter growth was about -1%. In addition, the cut in spending has caused enormous hardship for the British people. Another country facing abysmal hardship is Greece. Two winters ago the Greeks had to burn their furniture to keep warm. There was a plum of smoke hanging dormant over the country. This led to environmental degradation. Portugal, Spain , Ireland, etc. all are still experiencing negative growth. Those aforementioned countries have followed the IMF and cut spending significantly.

The IMF is not always right. It engages in economic strangulation and genocide. It has an abysmal record when dealing with the economic problems of developing countries. Having said this, Kenny is following the method of Germany and the United States by trying to resuscitating the economy. He is using stimulus in lieu of austerity to improve the economy. For the naysayers, what is wrong with his method? Should he do like Greece and add more suffering to the people? Should he do like Germany, Brazil, the United States, etc. and continue with deficit spending?

Finally, it was a British economist who once said that in a recession the government should spend money to revive the economy and in doom economic time the government should save money. Let us analyze the methods cited and arrive at the best solution to help solve our nations economic problems.

9.30 Keynes (which is who you're referring to) also said that he couldn't understand why politicians cling to the views of long deceased economists!!

I take those arguments about deficit spending, and you are right to point out there is merit in them. But you can't extrapolate lessons from the Uk and Germany to st lucia. The reason being is that you use the profits in the boom to shield the bust. St lucia doesn't have a self functioning economy because its largely import driven. All that happens (and we are seeing) is the compounding of debt interest. So spending more will just create more debt. I also agree with you that IMF isn't always right, but I think they are in this instance.

St lucia simply cannot afford the apparatus of big state spending. The people will be served best by having small but efficient government which improves the crime situation, respects the environment and educates the young. These basic tenets will have massive impact for the populace.

Thank you for replying in a civil manner.

Your writing is evolving and
with effective efficacy to boot,

-with adequate ballast in its balance of opinions and facts;

-with a jazzy coolness that implies "aplomb".

Your writing continues to intrigue even as it stimulates the latency of my political awareness (local).

I especially liked your deployment of Moliere- Do you play chess?

Additionally, your use of " DISPLACEMENT " as the typical "poor" psychological defense mechanism utilized by the downtrodden populace- is RIGHT ON target. Good citizens cannot engage in basic economic recovery initiatives, without accepting a salient vestige of responsibility as in "pulling up- oneself by the boots". Displacement is a significant barrier to the wide range of capabilities endowed within accepting RESPONSIBILITY. It is a benchmark if not hall mark of GOOD CITIZENSHIP.

Finally, you score a FIFA Futbol GOAL for your phrasing of MELANCHOLY. Melancholy is a first cousin of Laissez-faire attitude. I agree strongly with the bloggers who place "living high on the hog and beyond the marginal means of an agro -tourist dependent island economy-on the acquired decadent tastes and habits -imported from the industrialized continental enclaves. A few bloggers and at least one columnist in another section of this paper point to a loss of a viable Protestant Work Ethic. Many prefer to prey /pray at the altar of Western Union or Money gram for that instant remittance. Even cell phones can be topped off online from anywhere in the world. This form of Learned Helplessness can be quite pervasive. So much so that said "welfare" mentality can usher in a Reaganomics form of extreme controls on the local "exchequer"

Thanks for the mental treat within your writing skills.

PS
I support the upward excellence of Saint Lucia -wherever it percolates.

My intent is to remain a proactive 'referee' as the "colors" compete in their quest to return the cool blue ambiance reflected in her sea, ocean and sky and perhaps, too, the Irie feelings of one love will kiss our natural sunny dispositions once again-in this lifetime-amen...
