I hope fence-sitter, that the fence saws through and splits your posterior eventually. Good going!

one of the problems I have observed is that you all want a US/UK style of living but you're not equipped with the means to go about it and it creates envy. TV and internet has shown you material things the other parts of the world has, and it's given you green eyes. You can't sell yams for iphones.

There's no quick way to solve it, but the public finances must be put on an even keel, the judicial system must be updated to move more efficiently and parents need to show some responsibility in bringing more mouths to feed.

At present there are 4,000 school leavers each year. All of them can't be absorbed by government jobs, and the level of tertiary education is weak. We are now living in a post-industrial age, and if you are not a technocrat or have a specific skill, the job opportunities are not there. I don't think St Lucia can support 180,000 people. It will end up like Ireland where all the youths emigrate to the UK/Can/USA.

Rochelle.

Let's be consistent here? Quote:

“with so many idle hands and a rise in the cost of living, with the added pressure of society to be “in the crowd” what do you think this leads to?”

I am with you up to the rhetorical question, but then you suddenly come out of Right Field with this:

“They want the luxuries in life, but are unwilling to work for them so they commit crimes” ??? I am attributing this “unwilling” to a typo that was meant to say, “unable” - so Rochelle, which is it? The devil finding work for idle hands or simply criminality?

Big up! Saint Lucia really needs a superman, desperately, but you should have spelt it out more forcefully. Kenny has been a failure in this regard.

Our horrendous predicament as a society is just the symptom of a much bigger problem which is the inability of our present day politicians ( or business/legal/Church) to offer up any answers to our problems.

Our academics and journalists just like our politicians look for answers in the narrow confines of the liberal leftist ideology that has destroyed the Caribbean and is even now undermining America under the feckless incompetent Obama.

The only guarantee we have under this ideological dictatorship is that we will continue to decline as a culture and suffer the repercussions.

A few years ago (and regularly since) I commented that we will have continued societal degradation, the increased appearance of vice, increased unemployment, increased debt and eventually the EC dollar will have to be devalued.

This is all the effects of the attack on the Judeo Christian ethos that bound society together in an ordered natural fashion to produce western civilization.

Now the liberal/leftist/socialist/ communist politician/academic in the person of Dr. Anthony has spearheaded the attack on all that made the Caribbean have the option of moving forward since independence.
The result of his socialist feckless and incompetent leadership is now bearing fruit. 2 billion dollars in debt, increased unemployment, wastage of investment funds, a immoral degraded society following all the unnatural vices championed by his wife - the UWI academic.

In fact, the anti- Christian moral decline is even more destructive than the fiscal as in the end we do not even have the foundation to begin the climb back to prosperity. We have been brainwashed by Hollywood, liberal academics and the media plus liberal activists to abandon the Christian base of our success. Gay lifestyle and marriage, prostitution, abortion, a victimhood 'freeness' mentality are all part of the drive by a liberal elite to take over society for their own self aggrandizement. They get richer and have more power as our people suffer !

It has been going on since 1997 and continues unabated so do not expect anything to change anytime soon or that a change of government will make any difference.
Chastanet is just as liberal/socialist/leftist in the fiscal and social areas as Obama or Anthony.

Finally. I do not expect anyone to take these comments seriously in spite of the fact that all I have said had indeed come true because in the Caribbean we are as liberal and indoctrinated as the African American community in the USA - a culture which is no less spiraling downward as we are in the Caribbean.
Only a revolution in thinking can make any difference and it cannot happen with the leftist politicians/academics/media that determine the direction of our countries.

Son-of-Man,One thing...it seems that you look forward to Rochelle's posts every week man lol I agree with you kinda/mostly. I think its both. Many of the youth are unable and a lot are unwilling too coz some of dem kids they feel society owe dem something and so they shouldn't work but just take take take smh. its sad to see the ones who are unable struggling but the others....

You,ve hit the nail right on the head. What I can see happening is a "French Revolution" type bust up, not only in St. Lucia but throughout the whole region. Marie Antoinette is a Trinidadian so she and her husband may escape the what's coming but I cannot see it not happening and people are mad mad mad. Don't look for a Superman sweetheart, he came and went 2,ooo years ago and left us some guide lines, but greed/religious strife/ laziness/power hungry/immorality/ and a host of other factors have exhibited its ugly head and that Trini wife is laughing at us.
Tanto tanto.

Oh how sad; the state of Saint Lucia.
Oh how sad to see the country dying.

And Kenny is a complete waste. He does not possess the where withal to assist the change we needed in this country. He has lost the respect and the confidence of the majority of people in this country. What a mess; what a shame.

There must be more to it than we are thinking. Apart from the greed and incompetence of politicians we as a people have to change our mind set. The best one can do is to deviate from the norm where and when necessary. We have adopted a lifestyle we can ill afford. We have to begin to live within our means. Technology in reaping us apart, especially the cell phone. Does one ever think of the amount of money spent topping up for the month? We must change our lifestyle. Plant a seed, go local, and cook your own. Everyone make it seem like the island is falling apart. Every other nation big and small has had to make adjustments to keep their budgets balanced. The difference here is a divided society. Because of the division we cannot come together for a common good. We don't need any superman.

A number of years ago I also made the point that we were overlooking the cost when we 'liberated' the telecoms industry.
As a country We went from spending $10s of millions on phone services to spending $100s of millions annually that is repatriated to fill the coffers of foreign companies.

Has any government in the region examined the real cost to a country in terms of that massive increase in foreign exchange leakage? We lose %ages of GDP servicing these phone bills!

Then you have the SLP Administration spending $millions on free computers for students of which the majority will be used for surfing the net, going on facebook or playing video games.

In all these cases it is the liberal, non productive, vote buying freeness that is destroying our societies to keep these elites in power.

I am not saying that we stop the telecoms advance but the indiscriminate wastage/leakage of the country's resources of which 90% is to talk crap and roro to friends should be examined for its economic impact.

But that is why we are doomed because the practical productive sensible conservative way of making political decisions has given way to the liberal/socialist leftist politically correct garbage that passes for governance in the Caribbean and St Lucia.

Let me suggest you read the article "Dream or Destiny" by Chester in the Opinion Page of this News paper - you and Chester have said a lot in common, and I think you will agree.

I imagine there are always two sides, but as I read your comments the “American G.I. Bill” came to mind. The young men and women returning from the war were given Free University Education, Mortgages to purchase homes and a number of different forms of assistances from the “Society” - I mention this in response to your statement about what does the society owe the young men and women who would like to improve their stations which would be beneficial to all inhabitants of St. Lucia – Prison is certainly not the answer, while the Government continues to receive a check from making bom with Taiwan.

If the Governments UWP and Labour were serious about solving the afflictions of the unemployed thereby reducing the criminal incentives, they would would make their bom with Taiwan for some serious manufacturing industries; not selling their UN Vote for Rawcake.

Saint Lucians have always accepted that a khaki skinned person is automatically the best person to lead. Pip and Hunte thought so. They handed Kenny the headship of the party and bowed to the need to have him remain as head until his ego is sated!

UWP has returned to the same basic model. Rigobert has a PhD, knowledge and insights regarding of SIDs (Small Island Developing States) and has a seat in the House to boot. But that other one with just an MBA in marketing it seems, a last-in first-out corporate title, was rewarded as external party leader after he led the Tuxedo Affair from his ministry. You hear him and he sounds like that other guy, who has people writing his online exams for him instead by himself.

Saint Lucia has no MERITOCRACY. It has family.

The operations of a relative who used to stroll to work from besides the river to the House of Parliament, saw to it that only the family members of the elite, made it to the top in society. No names need to be mentioned. Just ask the administrative cadets hired at that time who used to work along the corridors.

The children of those with darker hue in the society were EXCLUDED, and not offered the scholarships that available. The file was sat upon until those members of the so-called elite came of age to make use of those scholarships.

The father had the most punitive rates for using his shipping services, fleecing the speculators shipping goods to Barbados.

With such a history and mentality, those people have the effrontery to present themselves as representatives of who? The 98 percent black Saint Lucian population? Are they genuine? Really?

Kenny and Chastanet, when I see either one those two on TV, I quickly get very, very sick to the stomach. I want to puke.

I rush to turn TV off as quickly as possible. I can not bear to take either one these, not even in very small doses!

DUDE, at 10:37

A Lucian with some dignity. This is some hard truths. You have to understand that no one has attempted to break the chains of mental slavery from the ignorant masses who see what you call khakis/whites as superior to their own black selves. White man is God. These slaves would have it no other way. These slaves would never be happy until that witch-looking woman is their first lady. Their God and Queen is snow white, bunch of brainwashed samboes Lucians them.

It takes time for the more educated generation who are in a young stage to acquire and take control of the business of the country. They will not be fooled neither do they have the same degree of tolerance that the more uneducated older generation has. They are well aware that all man were created equal with the exception of a few drop-outs.

We need a leader who is honest. Not who lies about Grynsberg and richamel and cost overuns.

A leader who looks after the people and not himself and his hacks.

A leader who recognizes his incompetence and failings.

A leader who has fiscal commonsense.

unfortunately Kenny Anthony has NON OF THE ABOVE!

People in Vieux Fort were heard to express great thanks to God. He had sent them a white man, Kenny to help them.

Today, we all know that he is a curse. SLP is slowly coming to the realization that HE IS A LIABILITY.

Temporary emigration is the solution. People with a good education and experience ias electricians, IT and drivers of heavy excavation machines have a good chance. Where? Panama is booming and lacks 30% in skilled labour. LEARN Spanish!!! Life is also 20% cheaper in Panama and wages are higher. St. Lucia should open an embassy in Panama. South America is growing very fast except Venezuela, where an ex city bus driver is president Mr. Maduro.
