Prudent financial management, which the very Minister of Finance flouts its laws, this time he wants to do that with impunity, says you must cut the BLOATED STAFFING LEVELS. All the yardfowl jobs created within the ministries and out, since SLP came into power have to be cut FIRST.
Those SINECURES and jobs for the boys have to go, before the PM can ever be taken seriously. Union leaders are waiting for a signal that the PM is as serious about the sky is falling scenario that he giving us. But the lies have come before. The recent marches are vivid memories and testimony of duplicity and deception.
There are unions in the back pockets of the PM. We have always had those fart smellers riding in the back, stabbing the labour movement in the back. Those SOBs know themselves.

Most of us with commonsense are smart enough not to ask you.

A nation of beggars. Public service is just that - to serve the public. You don't become a civil servant to enrich yourself. There's too many of them not doing a good enough/productive job.

Everyone who has to deal with them, whether it's the MPs, Police, planning authorities, WASCO - the service is atrocious generally.

The rank and file should take a 5% cut, get rid of the poor performing bottom 10% in numbers, and cut the salaries by 9% of the highest ranking civil servants.

"If you asked me, we simply cannot be paying out what we cannot afford. The fact that the efficiency of the public service has not been called into question this time around seems to suggest, too, that the public servants do deserve a pay raise instead of a pay cut and pay freeze."

Stan, how do you reconcile that paragraph, it's contradictory. Clearly you have no experience in running a business or making a profit. You should go and do some reading on debt compounding. You can't keep borrowing money for recurring expenditure because the cost of paying the interest becomes too great.

Also what a lot of hard headed lucians can't seem to grasp is that the tax increases are to pay for the money you've already borrowed and spent. You can't say we need a pay rise because of VAT. The reason VAT and other tax rises are coming is BECAUSE you wanted the 14% pay increases!!! They are the different sides of the same equation.

This is such a 'fence sitting' article devoid of any answers to our problems and a waste of printer's ink. I know you are better than this Stan!

This present issue is just the symptom of a much bigger problem which is the inability of our present day politicians to offer up any answers to our problems.

Our academics and journalists just like our politicians look for answers in the narrow confines of the liberal leftist ideology that has destroyed the Caribbean and is even now undermining America under the feckless incompetent Obama.

The only guarantee we have under this ideological dictatorship is that we will continue to decline as a culture and suffer the repercussions.

A few years ago (and regularly since) I commented that we will have continued societal degradation, increased unemployment, increased debt and eventually the EC dollar will have to be devalued.

This is all the effects of the attack on the Judeo Christian ethos that bound society together in an ordered natural fashion to produce western civilization.

Now the liberal/leftist/socialist/ communist politician/academic in the person of Dr. Anthony has spearheaded the attack on all that made the Caribbean have the option of moving forward since independence.
The result of his socialist feckless and incompetent leadership is now bearing fruit. 2 billion dollars in debt, increased unemployment, wastage of investment funds, a immoral degraded society following all the unnatural vices championed by his wife - the UWI academic.

It has been going on since 1997 and continues unabated so do not expect anything to change anytime soon or that a change of government will make any difference.
Chastanet is just as liberal/socialist/leftist in the fiscal and social areas as Obama or Anthony.

Finally. I do not expect anyone to take these comments seriously in spite of the fact that all I have said had indeed come true because in the Caribbean we are as liberal and indoctrinated as the African American community in the USA - a culture which is no less spiraling downward as we are in the Caribbean.
Only a revolution in thinking can make any difference and it cannot happen with the leftist politicians/academics/media that determine the direction of our countries.

Civil servants are smart,
by salary increase its ONLY they benefiting not the public,
when it come to salary deduction they offering a increase in VAT and the public have to take the burden for them to have the full salary.

shit on you CSA !I dont want to pay for your very selfish thinking

The problems being experienced in St. Lucia today; is in great part; due to the mismanagement of the public service and by extension the country; by Kenny Anthony.

The nepotism; unparallelled and victimization of all kinds and in all forms engineered by Kenny and his mischief makers were bound to bring this country to its death; as we are currently witnessing.

Political cronies placed in positions to do as Kenny so wishes; regardless of the consequences (negative) that is; to the country; is the result of the deception and tricks of all kinds meted out by the Kenny Anthony administration.

And it seems very clear to all who have no re- or for that matter yellow blinkers on; that this current government will be booted out of office; whenever the next general elections are called.

Sadly we will have to bring back another waste of a UWP with Allen Chastanet; unless St. Lucians set a precedent and vote for the brightest and best with integrity a set of independent candidates; and kick the hell out of those blood-suckers from both of these two major parties. That will I believe be a turning point for this country.

Show these rascals that we are capable of thinking for ourselves and making the right and best choices.

Everyone seem to be forgetting that the 14.5 percent increase to deputy permanent secretaries and permanent secretaries who are on the permanent establishment; approved by Stephenson King was the result of the twelve or more years the majority of which occured during Kenny Anthony's two-term in government; when he never granted any increase to these levels of civil servants; because he brought in his political cronies from outside the civil service and others he hand-picked from within the civil service; and appointed them on contracts with very lucrative and lavish emoluments and allowances.

So get your forking facts straight. and just get the hell out.

Kenny Anthony will get the most humiliating defeat whenever the next elections are called. In fact he will have a terrible time walking the streets of St. Lucia; because he will be booed; all the way.

Kenny could have borrowed money as usual to pay salaries of civil servants and increase the debt burden of the country to save his seat but where would that money be borrowed from? Granted he could have borrowed the money, that would have been an invitation for the IMF to invade our business on the island, and perhaps call for more stringent measures to keep our budget balanced. He knew that his popularity would diminish and perhaps cost him the next general elections, but he chose to do what is necessary to keep the country from plunging further into debt.

To The dishonest fool above defending Kenny Anthony's incompetence.

It was Kenny's SLP Administrations that increased the civil service by thousands costing us $100s of millions - that had to be borrowed!

It was Kenny who increased debt servicing from $16 million annually to over $75 million annually or $3/4 BILLION over 10 years.

It was Kenny who helped to force pay increases on UWP Administrations.

It was Kenny who implemented flawed management that resulted in $100s millions in cost overuns!

Add in the per diems the travelling the consultants the $million ambassadors and you have the cause of our debt crisis who you are now defending because he has now been bitten by the snake he raised in St Lucia's garden!
What duplicity , what dishonesty; what a lying wretch are you opportunists!

To the honest smart ass above, pointing fingers doesn't help remedy the dismal economic situation which all politicians, parties or heads of government past and present contributed to it's creation. It takes a leader to face up to it at all cost. My future is at stake. I eat by the sweat of my brow.

By calling someone a smart-ass just because they are not on your side of the fence on issue, is being EQUALLY a very smart-ass! This is more so, when you EQUALLY have NOT provided any solution yourself either. What a smart ass you are, providing ammunition for your critics! You moron!

Like all financial problems facing governments that have become INSOLVENT, like the position a certain jackass minister of finance put this ENTIRE country in, the answer is technical. Recent memory indicate what options there are in tracing the history of New York, and now Detroit in the USA.

But it takes time. We did not get to this analysis of paralysis nor its obverse, the paralysis of analysis of all the media talking points overnight!

The tipping point was the 14.5% increase which a highly educated moron we are told, egged the CSA to pursue. Subsequently, the country had to borrow $160 million to finance non-income generating expenditure. In other words, CONSUMPTION.

A fundamental law of Finance is leveraging. You borrow because the income flow from the monies borrowed are perceived to be able to generate a rate of return higher than the cost of money or interest payment on the borrowed funds. This is worthy of repetition.

With the $160 million borrowed to cover the 14.5% increase there was ABSOLUTELY no expectation of any PERCEIVED returns (on investment that is), only perhaps, social calm or a tepid industrial relations climate.

By this borrowing alone, the country on the whole was LOSING MONEY. Re-read!

Saint Lucia had to pay back money, principal plus interest, with absolutely no hope of income generation or cash flow from the borrowed funds. The IMF country inspectorates will no doubt corroborate!

How stupid and damaging that was to have your name and person associated with such financial stupidity! Not to mention, a disaster!

The time-honoured way to fix INSOLVENCY, BECAUSE in our case, THERE IS NO CERTAINTY OF TOURIST ARRIVALS NOR INCOME FLOWS from this sector, like the cash-cropping bananas industry was, is to employ a MIX of triangulated financial strategies, targeting certain ECONOMIC VARIABLES. A financial MIX.

SENSIBLE and MATURE fiscal managers in Public Finance, which this is, deploy a MIX. NOT JUST A SINGLE DAMN BANDAGE, like simplistic wage cut is!

This inordinate focus and concern with one contributing factor alone, more than BETRAYS THE ABSOLUTE BANKRUPTCY OF IDEAS by both the Minister of Finance, his ARMY OF useless IDIOTS called endearingly, consultants.

Picking on the low-hanging fruit of a self-created BLOATING OF RECURRENT EXPENDITURE, by PADDING THE PUBLIC PAYROLLS WITH TOADIES, with THEIR SINECURE JOBS, after the mendacity of the "14.5% March", betrays a less-than-well-thought-out approach to the solvency issues facing this economy! These SLP experts who seem to "know everything about nothing" are mere readers of prepared scripts. Our budget presentations come to mind.

A fool on the hill, as I sat at his feet once said that, "IF IT IS NOT IN YOU, IT DOESN'T COME OUT"!

This dear friends, goes for both the good ... and the evil ... in each and every one of us. Ta-ta!

Get rid of the useless yardfowls and cockroaches including Menissa Rambally, Sonia Johnny, brain-dead derelicts like Claudius Francis, Vaughn Lewis, La Corbiniere and Julian Hunte to name a few. That will bring in revenue.

Shooting shate, as the topic would be a lot more honest. But we know who is your idol and who you are following. Honesty from top to bottom, is in very short supply, and is at risk in this society. Stop writing shate for once.
