You stated that what is needed is good government.I agree fully. You also stated that there is not a leadership crisis.
How would you describe the actions of the leadership of the current government in terms of the economic situation ST.lucia is currently in?
Most persons will agree that the present leader of the government is lost in terms of knowing what to do to dig St.lucia out of the hole it is in presently. There is no one in the leadership of the government who appears to be making an effort to provide workable solutions or to replace Kenny as leader and therefore attempt to offer some solutions. In the meantime the country continues to suffer due to lack of leadership.
Isn,t there a leadership crisis?

You said that the problem is a followship one.All right then the followers elected persons, who apparently are not doing what they expected. Those who did not support this group are also affected. It is the general view that most persons are dissatisfied with the way the SLP government is managing the affairs of the country.
Given what you wrote, what do you think the followers and the non-followers should in order to get their country to move in the right direction?

The analysis you used to describe the dire situation the island is in, those not fit St. Lucia. That analysis is for a more structured society. Education is a key component in the followship thing...The people who should be listening are the ones talking and the ones who be doing the talking are the ones listening. Too often you try to bring structure into the conversation and you told to go back where you come from. These skilled politicians avoid the inform consumer. Functional illiterates for the most part make up the composition of the two party delegate system on Island. And that's where all the damage starts, it is from the town and villages these innocent people get exploited empty promises are made, hand outs galore. And the process reverberates. Great article anyhow...

With the political mindset that exists in this country do you think that recasting the leadership model will help?

Like James Bond, I like this succinct article, neat- stirred -not shaken.

The points made on "follower-ship" are poignant. For example, the defeat and economic sanctions imposed by the victorious forces together with their myths/fables surrounding the "fatherland" was seeding for fanatic Goebbels to radicalize the embittered masses. The bitter corporal won his small political seat and rapidly extended his grasp as ultimate leader -because the masses via Goebbels mouth piece FOLLOWED the rhetoric of blame for their economic misery and "castrated" fatherland heritage on Zionism and the infiltration of impure 'cultural races'-among others.

Upon deeper reading I would add that the described followership model is not unlike a puppeteer(elected authority) manipulating the emotive cultural underpins of puppets ( gullible populace).

The case for charismatic follower ships is also evident in the Jim Jones cult mass suicides. Although the underpins were religious dogma- the puppetry schematics are identical.

The current youthful populace is both ripe for a fruitful renaissance of revisionist governance or a continuance of the current status quo.

The followers both informed and uninformed have relied too much on the leadership to solve problems. Followership and leadership are analogous to the family structure which involves kids totally dependent on their parents. Everyone expect some sort of favor for the vote and leaders manipulate on this mindset by making false promises in election campaigns. The society on the whole is devoid of moral principles for guidance. We have become very selfish and cater just for self at all cost. However, it is easier to change the mindset of the leadership than that of the followership. Leaders should be genuine and lead by example and the followers will follow.

You can not seriously have a conversation on leadership change, with out examining the kangaroo court system. Name one politician that has ever face jail time in sweet Helen? It is by design theses crook politicians have the justice system operating like a dysfunctional classroom. And with good reason, Change the court system hold politicians accountable for tax payers hard earn capital. And guarantee, sweet Helen will have quality leadership.

This model is irrelevant because it presupposes the existence of high enough literacy level, enough to ensure and secure a proper understanding of the term leadership. Many trees have been felled in writing on this very issue.

(This reminds us of the very comical Constitution Review Commission where both the commissioners and even less, those from whom ideas were being solicited were very much clueless about what a democratic constitution was all about. Our functionally illiterate population still depending on Creole as their first language, now being forced down their throats, knew neither head nor tails about what was really going on.

In the end those clueless people simply recommended transfers of additional power from the people to the political directorate. They did more harm than good.)

If a large swath of the population is still very much functionally illiterate, and are largely content on receiving basic needs, what the heck do they know or care about leadership per se?
