...good! cutoff the umbilical cord. These people have an entire year to promote and market this event...what part of sponsors, sponsors, sponsors...that they don't understand?
The real problem is this. No administration past or present has ever decided on the actual net contribution of the allowance for carnival to the public purse. Without that, governments are just reacting with hope. Hope that it does positively and substantially contribute to the GDP figure.
Maybe, just maybe, with hard times falling all around our ears, some Saint Lucians are only now just beginning to understand the meaning of the word "value". And too, the concept: "value for money".
It has always been said what we don't want to do in sunny days will have to be done in rainy days. When things was good, past leaders did not capitalize and store up barns for hard times now its a worldwide situation where other countries need help and can't depend on other countries for help so what does government has to do in order to stop the bleeding, [we have gotten so comfortable in having things our way, that many are finding it hard to beleive] but we better believe it and face the music, cause the economic situation is real. many countries had to either send workers home or they will have to agree on a percentage cut. what will be in the best intrest of all lucians with this economic crisis, Sending a vast majority of workers home or accept the cuts You be the decider.
It is possible that Dionysian mythology would later find its way into Christianity. There are many parallels between the legends of Dionysus and Jesus; both were said to have been born from a mortal woman but fathered by a god, to have returned from the dead, and to have transformed water into wine. The modern scholar Barry Powell also argues that Christian notions of eating and drinking the flesh and blood of Jesus in order for individual followers to feel Jesus within them was influenced by the cult of Dionysus.
Certainly the Dionysus myth contains a great deal of cannibalism, in its links to Ino. Dionysus was also distinct among Greek gods, as a deity commonly felt within individual followers. In a less benign example of influence on Christianity, Dionysus' followers, as well as another god, Pan, are said to have had the most influence on the modern view of Satan as animal-like and horned. It is also possible these similarities between Christianity and Dionysiac religion are all only representations of the same common religious archetypes.
Furthermore, it is worth noting that the story of Jesus turning water into wine is only found in the Gospel of John, which differs on many points from the other Synoptic Gospels. That very passage, it has been suggested, was incorporated into the Gospel from an earlier source focusing on Jesus' miracles.
Modern Neopagans view Dionysus in different lights, depending largely on the individual sects and the other gods worshipped by a sect. Dionysus is often seen as the god of Earthly Delights and is thought to play a role in euphoria. In the United States, some Hellenistic Neopagan sects forbid the worship of Dionysus, because Dionysus worship is associated with hedonism.
Sects which worship Hera and Themis in particular may forbid Dionysus worship. However, there are sects that make Dionysus a central figure of their faiths. Many sects may include both the worship of Themis and Dionysus, holding that moderation is key to virtue and that earthly delights are virtuous when maintaining responsibility and moderation. Depending on individual sects, and the other gods within the sect, worship of Dionysus can take many forms.
Sects that include worship of Themis and Hera for instance may allow the drinking of wine and various festivities, but actively discourage "decadence" and promiscuity. Those sects who worship Dionysus exclusively, or in more common cases Dionysus and Aphrodite, are sometimes known to conduct orgiastic rituals and use numerous intoxicants in attempts to reach earthly gratification and euphoria (Such sects are often considered cults even by Neopagan standards).
Most sects agree that it is unwise to trade future well being for a moment's pleasure. However, some followers of Dionysus believe that they are inspired to relish in earthly delights, ignoring any consequences.
bac·cha·nal [n. bah-kuh-nahl, bak-uh-nal, bak-uh-nl; adj. bak-uh-nl] Show IPA noun 1. a follower of Bacchus. 2. a drunken reveler. 3. an occasion of drunken revelry; orgy; bacchanalia. adjective 4. pertaining to Bacchus; bacchanalian. Origin: 1530–40; < Latin Bacchānāl, equivalent to Bacch ( us ) + -ānāl, probably as back formation from Bacchānālia; see Bacchanalia
Synonyms 3. saturnalia, debauch, spree, carousal.
In Roman legend, Bacchus stepped in for Dionysus, and earned the title of party god. In fact, a drunken orgy is still called a bacchanalia, and for good reason. Devotees of Bacchus whipped themselves into a frenzy of intoxication, and in the spring Roman women attended secret ceremonies in his name. Bacchus was associated with fertility, wine and grapes, as well as sexual free-for-alls. Although Bacchus is often linked with Beltane and the greening of spring, because of his connection to wine and grapes he is also a deity of the harvest.
Bacchus has a divine mission, and that is his role of "liberator." During his drunken frenzies, Bacchus loosens the tongues of those who partake of wine and other beverages, and allows people the freedom to say and do what they wish. In mid-March, secret rituals were held on Rome's Aventine hill to worship him. These rites were attended by women only, and were part of a mystery religion built up around Bacchus.
SOB, what do you have for entertainment? 1. The stoning of women on trumped-up charges of adultery? 2. The slicing of female genitalia for the benefit of your male primates? 3. The slicing of the throats of females, when they refuse to marry when sold to very old men, as payment for family debts and to keep their family's honour? 4. The chopping off of the wrists and legs of thieves? 5. The breaking of the legs, and the murder of those who abandon your primitive mumbo-jumbo, some dare call a religion, produced from the mind of a sex pervert?
I AM APPRECIATIVE THAT YOU HAVE BECOME MY # 1 FAN, BUT CAN YOU STOP CREATING THE IMPRESSION THAT I HAVE NOW BEEN REDUCED TO ATTRACTING PARANOID SCHIZOPHRENICS and LUNATICS WHO WALK AROUND CASTRIES WITH BULLET PROOF JACKETS HIDING FROM IMAGINARY HITMEN?
There's only bad news for you Claudius Francis, 1/3 of the World's population is Muslim; that's like 2,000,000,000 - since you are an unschooled low-life, that number is called billions. Yesterday I told another lowlife about the great Muhammad Ali, and I will repeat the same.
Most Black People the world over know, love, and respect the Great giants of Black Liberation; a Al-Hajj Malik Malcolm Shabazz, a Muhammad Ali, comes to mind. These Giants were inspired to reject the falsehood of worshipping Dead Caucasian and they were vilified by institutions of White Supremacy; today, there is no person alive in this World who is RESPECTED more than Muhammad Ali – no one respects a Negro worshipping a naked white-male as God – Negroes do not even respect their own selves.
However, there has always been low-minded House Negroes like yourself Claudius Francis, who refuses to escape the Slave-Master's plantations. Such Negroes suffer an inferiority complex – hating themselves and any Freedom-loving Africans, so when Ali rejected worshipping a Caucasian man as God, Negroes like yourself Claudius Francis, oozed out of the sewers to prove their inferior and despised station in life to their Slave Masters by pronouncing their anathematization of The “Greatest” Muhammad Ali.
I TOOK THIS PHOTO IN THE LINK BELOW OF YOU CLAUDIUS FRANCIS, SO THE WORLD CAN SEE THE SCUMBAG CALLED CLAUDIUS FRANCIS DRINKING BLOOD FROM THE ANUS OF YOUR WHITE GOD.
You should read the comments about the picture from the international audience, about what you are doing by drinking the blood of the white god. That was an eye opener.

Carnival should be paying the gov not the other way round-
in the form of sin tax
Cigarettes were once 75-95 cents a packet in nyc
the gov sin tax the hell out of it;
health ed campaigned against it - yet, people still smoke and pay ($9 average a pack for the killer.
carnival with its wild abandon will carry on bigger/badder than the national economy.
just pray that there is no mas ovulation cycles during the comely gyrations.......
Recession & Depression are no match for the tag team of Bacchus & Dionysus
Illusion works best when substance fails.
