Perils of Our Capital City

I've read some comments by Mr Hinkson previously. He seems to be the only few to take some pride in what he does. He's also a big reader, and I think illiteracy and low expectations by 'parents' creates an environment where laziness and fecklessness flourishes.

Nature does not do vacuums - the lack of backbone by politicians/public figures has allowed the shit to rise to the top. Academic achievement is not encouraged, personal property rights are not respected and everyone is hustling. That is no way to build a sustainable country.

As for now, I would like to see the police come up with a few zones where they will not let the slightest misdemeanour pass. You have to reclaim the country, street by street.

Every time the authorities try to effectuate change, the Malaway comes out crying, "I'm poor and this is how I make my livelihood and you are trying to take it away". And the authorities back down and Castries remain the same.

The malaway would not allow the authorities to implement changes that would help push the country to the next level, and in the process, bettering the lives of the malaway also. It's a catch 22.

We raise bronze statues to the memory of perps. We celebrate that.

We reward immorality. Then we turn around writing and finding it strange that we have lost our sense of direction, purpose and moral rectitude? You are finding it strange after this, that you cannot make a silk purse out of a sow's ear? Oh-h-h-h-h-h-h-h-h-h-h-h!!!

Those that we have been consciously electing to manage our affairs have been sending and telegraphing the wrong signals. Our young people are just following in their footsteps. After all, the older ones are giving their peers a pass on all their wrongdoings, as long as those people belong to their political tribe.
Meantime, we are slowly converting Saint Lucia into a hell hole. Even those who considered themselves insulated, at Cap Estate are seeking ways to speed up their exit from the country. The homes, watch the prices fall.

Whoa! Cap Estate rapid exits? Incredulous!

Are the economic straits that dire?
