Castries market- a calamity when it rains

I do not believe that a proper environmental impact study was done with respect to the upgrading of the Castries Harbour as a container or transshipment port.
Now, if there was a study conducted, perhaps the correct advice was not followed. Two areas that used to regulate heavy outflows of water into the Castries basin so to speak, were tampered with.
The swamp at Trous Garnier (that gave us the famous: "A safe anchorage for ships" motto for Castries) and the Prince Albert Basin come to mind. Even the Castries river was "straightened" with a wall, leaving less holding room for sudden and huge rain volumes in stormy weather.
Remember, the City's centre is sitting on a lot of reclaimed land. But the alterations made may have become too costly to correct, especially today.
However, regular or further dredging and de-silting of the entire Castries River and Harbour might just help to create more holding space for sudden and unusual volumes after heavy downpours or heavy rainfall.

Too many are reliant on the government. You elect donkeys and expect them perform like racehorses
