For Whom The Bell Tolls!

I really thought the age of the " great man" in politics was over.

We fool ourselves if we believe that people who have made money for themselves all their lives will suddenly change and provide services to poor people who need the help of the state.

Reducing the size of the state on the back of the poor is not what we need in Saint Lucia.
And because an individual with a decree does not make money personally from the good work he or she does to reduce poverty, disease, ignorance and deprivation does not mean he or she has contributed less to or nation than those who can show how they have profited from their contributions.

National Leadership is not about wealth creation for a few families. Its about inspiring a nations to achieve its full potential.
We destroy the fabric of our society once we start making money the only measure of a graduate's contribution to society.

Kenny Anthony aside from his abysmal track record in managing St Lucia 's finances from 1997 also is known for his attacks on the people within and outside his party that posed a threat to him. It is a long list:
Sir John Compton, Vaughn Lewis, Lawson Calderon, George Odlum, Stephenson King. He kept Mario out of the leadership but the useless lele Phillip as the permanent deputy. Rick and two other Senators were fired.
The only person to stand up to him in the SLP was Sarah Flood and she was fired even though she was the best Minister they had.
With his narcissistic parasitical personality the only persons around him are the hacks feeding off of the millions of taxpayers money.
So the attacks on Chastanet are expected to be vicious and personal. I do not think Chastanet can run the country but anything is better than the jokers we have now.

It is difficult to judge whether the writer has taken a balanced approach to his piece given his political history .
That said, some of his criticisms about Kenny Anthony may be valid but I would suggest:
1) that the Prime Minister may have retained his mother's name in line with tradition since nuptials would have entitled him to his father's name after he had attained the age of good reasoning. I seem to recall a time when St.Lucians considered his decision bold, and indeed, a badge of honour.
2) Kenny Anthony is a good debater(going back to his late teens) and he would excel in a debate with the current opposites in the other parties once he kept his cool.
3) it is not fair to excoriate ANY Prime Minister for the economic malaise in countries such as ours since many of the economic influencers are beyond our control. The matter is made much worse with a populace that depends on the Government to provide all solutions. But then our politicians have trained us to behave like this! This vicious cycle must be broken if we are to be truly independent. I think Stanley
Lucien's piece "Not so fast..." has some relevancy.
4) it is the bane of any leader to be held responsible for any mishaps under his/her watch although he/she may have acted on the best available advice. One cannot assume that the persons offering themselves as alternatives to the Prime Minister are better leaders because THEY say so. Some slate needs to be shown!

Josie:

The inconsistencies in your message is stunningly contrary to your known objective, which is to install the idiot Allen Chastanet as a Nuclear bomb in Government, you getting a Government Job as reward for your slander of Kenny – think Claudius Francis - the result of which would embarrass the people of Lucia and completely destroy the Island, while reducing the Pitons to sand.

How could you be so dumb to cite examples of individuals who were sent to study overseas, only to return as complete strangers to the people of Soufriere?? Every thinking Lucian knows you were not referring to Bam Charles with his Caucasian Miss Daisy - Bam at least played cricket - leaving the cap to fit only one other imbecile with a foreign accent, who can't speak a word of Kweyol – translate this for Allen: “ti bway, tiway ti corku la”

You want to hear Idiot? Listen to your Ignorant master tell Lucians that the civil war in USA was fought with England and USA - CLUE WORD IS "CIVIL"

Allen speaking German, declares the United States Civil war was fought against England and caused by Taxation without Representation, and Slavery never existed; listen for your self:

Yes yes we know Allen might not be good. But at least we are all starting to see Kenny for who he is. A thin skinned, profligate, autocrat.

Josie:

What University did your patron Allen Chastanet attend? It could not have been an accredited school.

If it is an accredited institution, his degree in KaKa CHIEN was bought and paid-for by his rich father. Allen does not know the Cardinal Points of our Planet are North south East and West, but you want him to be PM of Lucians?

Josie I challenge you to tell Lucians that this garbage being spewed by this crack-head, about the Civil War being fought over the Tea Act, is a figment of Chastanet's imagination.

But if you tell Lucians the truth you would not be singing for your supper; so keep fooling the people and Chastanet will make you President of the Senate - a job reserved for the reprehensible, Peter and Claudius.

don't rejoice that Chastanet has stabbed Richard in his little finger - none of the Francis thugs can win against Richard.

Richard has exposed the self-serving traitors in Chastanet's U.W.P. - by expelling Richard they have told the voters that their votes for Richard is of no consequence.

Is it not time we look at the fundamentals.

A) We have a fundamentally morally corrupt political elite intent on only one thing which is maximizing their power and wealth. They have no sense of decency or character.
B) The civil service is stocked with opportunists looking after the same. They see government service as a salary that is their 'right' irrespective of what service they provide. Again no respect for public property or the efforts by the producers of society.
C) We have a fundamentally clueless low information electorate also with no moral values satiated on smart phones, drugs, sex from the school ground to porn on the internet.

C produces A and B.

Our culture is all of the above as we 'Hurt It!' or should I say Hurt Ourselves!.

Our political and social commentary is taken over by foul languaged drug induced characters throwing around filth for maximum effect. Not that their comments lack any truth but their methodology reeks of incivility which is now the hallmark of society.

It is going to take revolution and rioting to stop the downward trend. Many will have to suffer as this indecency is through the Caribbean and the USA and Europe as the liberal elite plunder a drug fueled populace.

We have to laugh as these fools discuss kenny and allam and richard even as the country spirals out of control. They offer no solutions but wallow in the filth that has now become our CULCHA!

I am in full agreement with you.
The age of progress is dead. Welcome to the age of Nihilism.

In the Middle East, it is characterized by crazy arm conflict.

In the Caribbean we see the proliferation of filth and senseless violence.

The middle class are seeking ways to protect their interests in that new environment. Thus they can no longer ignore political power.

How will they use political power?

I believe they will use is to create segregated zone of "safety". Private schools to separate the underclass from their kids. Private hospitals that focus on middle class health concerns. Gated communities that cannot be crossed by barefoot kids and reduced taxation so that individuals can become more powerful than the states.

Sadly for us in the Caribbean, the political elite share the same aspirations as the neo-conservative middle class. They are tired of the burglaries, the rapes, the drug dealing, the poor customer service, the failure of public administration and the high taxation.

"Progressive" thinkers are too slow in adjusting to the new environment. They are failing in their attempts to identify quick wins that can get buy in and around which a broader social cohesion can be built.

Thus, the ideology of abandoning those who are doomed has taken root and so we now have a political elite who have accepted Nietzsche's "meaninglessness of life" and political power.

The only way the United Workers Party can come into power is to bring back Stephenson King as leader. It is fine to keep Michael and his son as financial supporters; but given Allen's track record in Government; that is the furthest he can be accomodated.

Otherwise you folks will miss out on an positive outcome; that is; a WIN come the next general elections.

Keep rats like Mondesir, the one from Bexon, Osbet DORVERGNE out of the United Workers Party; and mark my word; you stand a good chance of winning; especially now with the two Francis' aboard.

9:40 am.
Excellent viewpoint.
It is refreshing to read some of the comments (except for the nutjob who keeps popping up like a rat on Bridge St) on this site in sharp contrast to the vicious hackism with the broken english and head in the sand parochialism and primitive ideas that are being spewed on St Lucian Facebook sites.
You made the comments about the gated communities. The reality is that in Jamaica and Trinidad and here in St Lucia the dysfunctional liberal elite are already in full defensive mode against the brutish society THEY have created!
They have offered as the opposite of slavery another type of slavery called freeness and an environment where fiscal freeness and personal absence of responsibility are the norm.

Then you have blogs writing about slavery in the tourism industry without recognizing the utter chaos that would reign if controls were not put on certain activity in the tourism industry.
Ask why for instance the young man was shot and burnt in his car at Cap Estate.
Because of "progressivism" if you let the flood gates open every tourist would be openly offered drugs, sex with underaged children both boys and girls and would be harassed off the island.
There has to be a solution but just calling out racism and apartheid without recognizing there is a problem with the mentality of our people with the rampant lack or respect and decency is living in a fools paradise.
St Lucia is on a downward spiral that is turning faster and faster every day. The calls to legalize marijuana for more and more gay freeness and refusal to recognize any virtues that made western civilization great is taking its toll. There is no end in sight given what is offered by our leadership and pundits across the political spectrum.
Events and actions and pronouncements by our leaders and people guarantee there will be riots.! They guarantee unemployment will climb to 35%!
They guarantee the tourism industry will implode probably affected by one very significant outrage by a totally clueless individual or gang!

To assume anything else is to be living in a fantasyland that Sf Lucia has become.

We recognize we have a political electorate on both sides of the aisle only interested in power pay and perks who collectively have brought the country to its knees.

We have our faith based leadership that are silent on moral issues while focusing on the 10% tith to pay their mortgages.
We have a Chamber of Commerce filled with shopkeepers concerned with the flow of money for todays sales and to hell with the future
We recognize we have a dysfunctional civil service which has bled the country of billions since independence and offered nothing in return except for a minority of dedicated who push on regardless.
For 30 years our media has been filled with a vicious roro induced fame seeking punditry offering maypuis as social commentary and contributing wholeheartedly to the societal decline.
We have clueless low information citizenry hoped up on rum, marijuana, sex, the internet and electronic gadgets who cannot tell right from wrong if it came and smacked them in the face.

Is that the formula for success?
Who will lead us out of the mess ?
Do we even have the capacity to listen even if all the truths were placed in front of us?

In fact St Lucia today reeks of the smell of Soddom and Gamorrah in which the answers have a snowball in hells chance of seeing the light if day!

Sodomy is called same-sex marriage blessed by jesus and preaching. what's left of western greatness? more sodomy. The game's over. curtains down.

Only a few people will disagree with the notion that in the last 20 years we have experienced declines in the political, economic and social structures of Saint Lucia.

Likewise very few would have failed to notice the rise in the "personalization" of political leadership in Saint Lucia.

Never before have the leaders of political parties become so dominant and their perceive qualities become so important for electoral success.

Thus the important question we should be asking is: is there a link between our decaying political, economic and social structures and the rise of the "personalization" of political leadership?

By failing to address that question, Mr Josie has gladly embraced the personalization of political leadership as legitimate and expanded great energy in writing the CV of Allan Chastanet as if Mr Chastanet is incapable of writing his CV.

Mr Josie's goal is clearly to plant in the minds of voters an idea that might last until election day.

The idea is simple, that is ,because the Chastanet know how to make money for themselves they will make money for Saint Lucia.

But political leadership is not just about wealth creation, in fact is more about creating public value. That distinction is important because only fools will believe that more money will solve drug related crime, domestic violence, un-employability and the social exclusion that marginalize so many of our people.

Further in many ways the drive to create wealth can destroy public value. The clearest example being the preparedness of some businessmen to pollute even historic sites in their pursuit of profit.

Mr Josie's thoughtless approach to evaluating the contribution of individuals, only on the basis of how much they have profited personally from their contributions to society, should be rejected as a dangerous concept akin to fascism.

In many ways it is nothing more than a further poising of impressionable minds with ingredients that can only further demoralize the many Saint Lucians who serve the country day in and day out to create the public value we so offend take for granted.

@ 12.48 pm: Let me quote you as follows: "Mr. Josie's thoughtless approach to evaluating the contribution of individuals, only on the basis of how much they have profited personally from their contributions to society, should be rejected as a dangerous concept akin to fascism." While your point is on-the-button, you may be forgetting something. There is nothing "thoughtless" about Mr. Josie's "approach". In fact, Josie's approach is very thoughtful! It is full of thought in that what he is doing is singing thoughtfully for his supper at the table of the Chastanets. Josie knows full well the truth of your argument, and the bluff of his theory. Had he been a more independent thinker, and had he still been with the SLP for example, he would be singing a different tune. That SALOP Josie is simply playing a game, hoping that the Chastanets will look kindly and generously upon him, should they have political power tomorrow. In other words, the salopcious Peter Josie is only playing a beggar's game, crooked, warped SALOP that he is. But rest assured, that he ain't fooling anybody, including Allen and Michael, with his silly little opportunism. They themselves will be kicking his beggardly ass if they ever get into power in St. Lucia, which BTW will not happen, “not over my dead body”! PIMPA.

I emphatically agree with you on the your discourse and comparison of Anthony and the Chastanet. Its time for St. Lucian to call a spade a spade and put away petty politics. We need the country to go forward to raised our standard of living we need to build on the foundations that our legends like Compton, George Charles, Bousquet have left for us not to break down pillars of success. Like Josie - We need a government that will have a strategic plan to improve the health status of the people while universal health is good we do not want to create a welfare state which the country cannot support. Hence creation of jobs is the sole responsibility of the government whether it is due to the global crisis- economy downturn or not they are mandated to find jobs, to stimulate the economy, create opportunities for the youth to work. Many universities graduates are with out jobs - are going to sit silently in our air condition offices and say and do nothing while our people suffer. I call for many more St. Lucian to rise up and let their voices be heard and stand for what is right. We need more jobs for our children let the government like every other government go out and negotiate, lobby for jobs for our youth, decrease the VAT, increase retirement age to 65 and improve the social and health structure of our beautiful country!. We need a government that can deliver these deliverables, and if the present government cannot then down with them.

What if Mr Allen Chastanet, is just another George W Bush Jr?

He ticks all the boxes, rich father, mediocre businessman, and unremarkable political career by the time he was elected President.

He became President by defeating someone with lots of degrees - Al Gore.

And what did we get? A war based on lies, and the worse financial and economic recession since the Great Depression.

Time out for a thematic song?

(And during the few moments that we have left
We want to talk right down to earth
In a language that everybody here can easily understand)

Look in my eyes, what do you see?
The cult of personality
I know your anger, I know your dreams
I've been everything you want to be
I'm the cult of personality
Like Mussolini and Kennedy
I'm the cult of personality
The cult of personality
The cult of personality

Neon lights, Nobel Prize
When a mirror speaks, the reflection lies
He won't have to follow me
Only you can set me free
I sell the things you need to be
I'm the smiling face on your T.V.
I'm the cult of personality
I exploit you, still you love me

I tell you one and one makes three
I'm the cult of personality
Like Joseph Stalin and Gandhi
I'm the cult of personality
The cult of personality
The cult of personality

Neon lights, Nobel Prize
When a leader speaks, that leader dies
He won't have to follow me
Only you can set you free

You gave me fortune
You gave me fame
You gave me power in your god's name
I'm every person you need to be
Oh, I'm the cult of personality
I'm the cult of, I'm the cult of, I'm the cult of, I'm the cult of
I'm the cult of, I'm the cult of, I'm the cult of, I'm the cult of personality

(Ask not what your country can do for you)

(The only thing we have to fear is, fear itself)
