Perhaps their jobs are too secure because of a lack of competition. Cable and Wireless now Lime tightenad their belts quickly when Digicel came into play. Hospital staff should possess humanitarian qualities of compassion, love patience, deligencc etc. Young people with those qualities seeking employment should be trained and kept in line to replace nonperformers. Another solution which would enhance competitiveness, is to bring better trained foreigners like Cubans as replacements. That would certainly make staff tighten their belts also. Just Saying.

You are so right, it doesn't matter how many structures are built, using the same staff will result in the same care, they are work shy and shiftless most of them, in my experience people are too frightenned to complain, and one friend of mine who was seriously ill (and did die) was told if he complained they would throw him out of the hospital, can you believe this could be said, and I was a witness to it.

We have an incompetent Minister of Health with absolutely no experience in the field. How can be embrace change for the better if the individual graced with the mandate lacks the fortitude.

It trickles down to staff at the hospital who think that they are more important than the patient. Not only is the training insufficient, but also the willingness to be taught is found wanting. The belief that "I have been doing this for eons" suffices for competence no matter the inefficiencies.

It is not until the very ministers themselves seek treatment at the public hospitals, will we see that change for the better. It is so much easier to go to Tapion or abroad for healthcare while we foot their bills.
