The governor-general can introduce a proposal to parliament that forbids work strikes by said unions and or act as the last line of defense of we the people to act as mediator or unleash martial law in the event said strikes derail the lives of we the people

For my farthing of thought- I think that the nice lady on top of the Morne is too good for current near bedlam political climate.

I pray that the Lord gives her Margaret Thatcher Titanium-kevlar cuticles (as in Falkland Islands trigger fingers) to summon the 'Queen'a Own" SAS, SBS and Royal Marine Commandos to a "Tea Tete" bivouac- when the crisis situation warrants such stabilizers.

I terrain reading RAF Tornado directing 3 VTOL Harriers can Twyford flush all the hidden pockets of trouble pinpointed by Operation Clean sweep commandos- within 36 hours-

A Murphy already did 48 hrs.
Here are the classic spin offs that HBO will show- post military intervention:

Sands of Iwo Gimie
Full Metal Bikini
The Longest Week
The Orange Berets
Bridge over the River Troumasse
The Dirty Dozen part 2
Casablanca meets Castries

Writer @2:20 PM, go and learn about the type of government we have before trotting out the container ship-load of garbage you have thrown out up there. Boy! Do we grow idiots by the minute in this country. Every next minute another one sprouts up near the sidewalk.

The governor-general is remembered when it is convenient for some hypocrites.
Remember GRYNBERG.According to the Minerals Act she is the only person who can legally sign the contract Kenny signed with Jack gryngerg.
She was of no use then, but can be useful now.
What a shame.
Anyway, the suggestion that the GG can do such things isfar-fetched.
You should be telling Kenny to do what you would like the GG to do.

Poor St Lucia but we get what we deserve.Nothing more nothing less.

We vote for drug connected big shots. The amount of our upper and middle class who rushed to the voting booths to vote for suspect characters not once but twice and three times.
We have a govt with two accused rapists and one other convicted.
We had an administration with a paedophile in a big position but nothing for dat.
We have officials signing agreements in secret costing hundreds of millions that were lost and we say nothing.
We had politicians buying apartments and getting rich off of foreign money but nothing for dat.

We deserve to be where we are and will continue to fall apart as a nation as we have NO VALUES - from the top to the bottom and changing parties makes no difference.

Is the champagne, whiskeys and big government's contracts ended???
Or do your kind see Allen as the next PM?

What we will witness is a closing down of the country similar to what we saw in 1981. When we had an interim government.

This is what we need now in St. Lucia.

This article is extremely and quite shockingly hypocritical. Where were such writers when Fair Helen was literally being raped by the mercantile class and its representatives? Why such sensibilities were so numbed then? Why were such people so darn quiet? Was it because they were part of the group that gorged themselves on the benefits from the goings-on?

Nasty repugnant Saint Lucians have no blasted sense of fairness and nationalism. They let in foreigners from everywhere who go to do as they please.

And of course we see the results today. The majority 90% get shafted on and on, and on, with apologists pointing only to our current problems that had their roots in the regimes they supported. Get the hell out of here! Disgusting SOBs!

@5:58 after your prescribed couch session (no opiates needed) I realize an explanation is in order.

Desperate actions that undermine the most vulnerable citizens ( kids, aged poor) on the bottom rungs of our socio - economic ladder (union workers represent the viable middle class at the very least) can create situations of spontaneous civil "disobedience" -

My exaggeration is made out of CONCERN that those who can make compromise solutions will be steadfast in the arbitrary aloofness to permit 'fighting in the streets'.

Yes, I alluded to the RESERVED powers inherent in the monarch's via her GG rep. But British intervention in the event of extreme degradation via civil unrest is far less far fetched as my need for any anti depressants.

Of course you may bask in the casino royale bet that the British would be reluctant-for purely economi reasons alone-
but lets not forget cousin US within too close a proximity to allow such deviant behavior to go unchecked - theirs -at all costs will be NATIONAL INTERSESTS

So one way or another -foreign intervention- will git at any spiral into anarchic zombie land- The choice is a domestic one- Take care of your home front with carrot appeasement or else the hammerhead just outside the reef will bring on the boots, batons etc.

We do live in a shark tank?

By the by Putin has used the same strategy in Ukraine?

@ 4:57, what else do you expect from someone named Jan Rapier? Reminds me of those who RAPE St. Lucia year after bloody year, then would promote a proven TAX EVADER and TAX EVASION FACILITATOR for Prime Minister of this country. The Rapiers of our world better be forewarned that MASSA DAY DONE and that the children and grand children of the former slaves, house-slaves, maids and cooks, are all armed with education and the mental, psychological and physical wherewithal to dispose of the MASSAS and their RAPACIOUS descendants in the Drive-in Volcano!

the monarch generally possesses reserve powers.

Typically these powers are: to grant pardon; to dismiss a prime minister; to refuse to dissolve parliament; and to refuse or delay Royal Assent to legislation (to withhold Royal Assent amounts to a veto of a bill, while to reserve Royal Assent in effect amounts to a decision to neither grant nor refuse assent, but to delay taking a decision for an undetermined period).

There are usually strict constitutional conventions concerning when these powers may be used, and these conventions are enforced by public pressure.

Using these powers in contravention of tradition would generally provoke a constitutional crisis.

Most constitutional monarchies employ a system that includes the principle of responsible government. In such an order, the reserve powers are thought to be the means by which the monarch and his or her viceregal representatives can legitimately exist as "constitutional guardians" or "umpires", tasked with guaranteeing that Cabinet and parliament adhere to the fundamental constitutional principles of the rule of law and responsible government itself.

A very lame excuse of course, to intervene before any UN vote on the matter.
But then your objections to the possibility of UK intervention is a preference for US Intervention - ASk JApan after the fall of Okinawa- and its surge to dominance in household electronics and reliable efficient autos were sealed.

I do pray that compromise will be met and fears of civil unrest averted-
Peace.

the last notes about reserved powers are to be cited from wikipedia

Take this government to court if it dares to cut salaries. Don't mind NWU. They have no independence. They have been in the back pockets of the SLP a long, long time ago. Your salary is your property. No one can legally take it from you. Defend your property rights.
