Terrible case of injustice...holding the man on remand for 8 yrs...if he guilty then punish him for that but don't tell me that y'all stalling a case for so long smh. what a mess
DNA tests should and might still be able to be done, to help prove his innocence (or not) of the rape. The technology is available so why no utilize it?
As the old adage goes: Justice delayed, is justice denied. It would appear that there is a prevalence of situations of this nature in St. Lucia, where persons languish in jail on remand for excessive periods of time, while waiting for their cases to receive a fair hearing in court.
While at Teachers' Training College (DTEEA) over a decade ago, I was part of a group which conducted research into the justice and penal systems for a Social Studies project. A large percentage of the sample interviewed was found to have been on remand for over a year, waiting for their matters to be brought to trial. It would appear that this trend is continuing today. This practice will only serve to overpopulate the already-overcrowded prison (who knows: it could also be one of the causes of the present overpopulation too) and then in instances where the cases have to be dismissed due to lack of sufficient evidence (as this Verlinda Joseph matter seems destined to be), ultimately open up the Government of Saint Lucia to hefty law suits for wrongful imprisonment ....
On the day of his release it was said that he should reporting to the Laborie police station since he is going back to his home place Saltibus. So why is he reporting at the Castries police station?

2:13PM the technology has been used in this case and you guess why the case still at this stage.
That whole case is very interesting. twelve years since that murder and no outcome, one way or another.
That cannot be justice neither for the victim or accused and speaks to our justice system, a failed system
