the perpetrator will go free if under 16 or nothing much will happen because our prison is already overpopulated.
And to punish physically is against our law.
Consequence = the bad is the winner

It is high time that something is done to stop those brazen mid-afternoon muggings in this area. It is not the first time this has happened on that lonely Cedars stretch, and if nothing is done, it certainly won't be the last. In March of this year, my goddaughter (who was walking from school with her classmate) was attacked by a young man who tried to make off with the gold chain I'd given her. She too fought back because she was unprepared to part with her belongings. Thankfully, she was not seriously hurt in the ensuing struggle, though to this day she still bears unsightly gashes and scars on her neck from where the chain tore into her flesh. What will it take for something to be done by the relevant authorities? For some teenager to be cut down before her life has even begun during the course of one of these muggings? The police are well aware that this is a hotbed of activity for these brazen young hoodlums. They need to take the necessary action before it's too late! ....

Another thing that needs to be addressed is the manner in which the investigators get persons to make a positive ID of persons in custody/suspects. I experienced it first-hand after I surprised a burglar in my house. He made off with some of my jewelry and was later caught trying to sell it. Unlike what we see on C.S.I. or Law & Order, a victim has to point the accusatory finger to identify the thugs as the perpetrator of the crime in full view of the hoodlum himself and in some cases, their gangster buddies. .... My thoughts at the time were: "Yes, he's the one." Then I fast-forwarded a bit: "Ok, so he gets arrested and charged; gets a few years in jail. Since this is St. Lucia, he gets out in less time, ... hhmmm .... What's to prevent him from seeking revenge? And who'll protect me from the backlash if and when he does? Will the responding officers have petrol in their vehicles at the time that I make that 911 call? Most likely not. .... Who?! Me!? Not a peck-o!! I refuse to become another statistic!!"..... I tell you no lie: at that point, all of my righteous indignation at having had my jewelry stolen just dried right up; I'm not ashamed to admit it. I told the officer that I could not make a positive id and walked out of the police station. .... Come on RSLPF officers, do something to restore our confidence in you .... Please ....

Saint Lucian males, not men, have no respect for our women. I wish another POS like him would juke out a piece of his neck.

The police needs to set traps for those thieves. Entice them to attach the trap whilst they stay ready to kill if necessary.

ARE THOSE OFFICERS FOR REAL?ASKING THE YOUNG LADY TO COME TO THE P.S. TO GIVE A STATEMENT,WHY COULD THEY NOT GET A STATEMENT WHEN THE INCIDENT WAS STILL FRESH IN HER MIND?THE RSLPF IS JUST THERE FOR SHOW AND NO FORCE BUNCH OF JOKERS.

We cannot focus on the young men. We must look at the WOMEN who are rearing these animals.

These women just look at what others have; they get envious; want to have the things they have not worked for. Encourage their children to copy cat what they see other peoples children have; and GET IT AT ALL COST.

These women too; sell their bodies from man to man; get pregnant; the men don't look back at them; and they end up with a whole lot of bitter; children who grow up into wretched; haters of society. SORT OUT THOSE WOMEN. AND THE CHILDREN WILL BE SORTED OUT.

It is the nature of men to pursue women; it is the responsibility of women to reject the man or entertain him; so let the women choose wisely. Or irresponsible choices will lead to what is being experienced in society today.

Respectfully, I don't quite agree with your line of reasoning. A MAN's place is at the head of his household. But then you may argue "things happen" to prevent him from forming that particular household .... Notwithstanding this, it is a MAN's responsibility to support and nurture his offspring, despite his relationship with their mother. Sadly, many St. Lucian males have yet to mature and become "MEN".

As a mother & educator, I can tell you that even women who do not display the behaviour traits that you outlined, often have a hard time bringing their children (both male & female) into alignment with what is good and acceptable societal behaviour. Even children nurtured by BOTH parents in God-fearing homes, have to navigate and choose wisely amongst all the ills which would ensnare and dash their Life's ships onto the rocks of disaster and ruin.

Before it was just pressure from their peers whose moral values may have been different, violence, drugs and alcohol during the turbulent teenage years. That situation usually righted itself once they were safely into young adulthood. Usually .... Now it's the repeated exposure to nudity, vulgar musical lyrics, graphic violence, the appealing portrayal of drugs & alcohol, the blatant oversexualisation of girls from an early age, open rejection of God, embracing of the occult, the open homosexual agenda, etc from as early as infant and primary school. Just take a close look at the video games, music videos, clothing and television programmes, that our children are exposed to; who are their favourite artistes? It's all "normal", right? Or is it? .....

In these times, keeping children on the straight and narrow is a daunting task for 2 stable committed adults, much less for a single mother living paycheck to paycheck .... Don't bash her; even if you feel she created her mess, think of the plight of her fatherless children who are like salmon fighting the current to swim upstream .... The wisdom of old is just as relevant and true today: "It takes a village to raise a child." Why not mentor one of those lost boys today? Make a difference in his life before he becomes a hardened hoodlum and the perpetrator of future crimes.

A human life is worth so much more than a cell phone. I can't believe the victim risked her life for a phone! Your life cannot be replaced but a cell phone can!
