What Earl is saying to the public workers on behalf of his party in power is hurry up already. Afterall its only 5% we are asking of you. It is the bungling and the corruption of the last UWP administration and the corruption and profligacy of past and present SLP administrations that has brought us here. But the SLP administration is demanding that the public sector workers should undertake a disporportionate share of the sacrifice that's needed to shore up the current deficit. They are being bullied, scapegoated, hurried, and guilt tripped by the government yet the party apparatchik, and hangers on who are really enjoying the promised "better days" will come off unscathed. Is no fair.

This guy is pathetic! He has absolutely no shame! He is symbolic of what is so wrong with the economy. What a mess!

Kenny needs money. Take Earl's own. It will do the Island some good. That waste of time!

Who else can the government call upon but the ones ( public servants ) on it's payroll.

If the government is looking for money to address the deficit issue it should ask of public service workers (the largest section of the payroll) to ante up, but the govenment must look elsewhere too. When one looks at the compensation packages they are quite lavish for a small country like ours. We knon that some cost cutting can be done there without a doubt. In cases where these consulates are overstaffed you have to have the balls to say we have to cut back. Look at the salaries of Speaker of the House, Senate Leader, everyone. There is no need for an ALBA ambassador anymore as ALBA is dead. Look at the contracts of known party supporters and renegotiate them if they love their country like they claim they would have no qualms abut that. In just the instances mentioned we can get at least $1-2 million a year of savings, or perhaps more. Look at the salaries of parliamentarians and ministers and their perks as well lets cut back there too. Everybody must contribute and be seen to be contributing no reason to do anything in secret. When you do this you make the public servant more willing to play its part. No more lap tops for kids. This is a good idea but we cannot afford it. Look at STEP, NICE, and all the other social programs and reassess their efffectiveness and cost implications. I know all the emotionally charged justifications for these programs but the bottom line is affordability at this time. When we are in a better financial position we can reinstate these programs. If the government is serious these are some of the hard choices it should make. We must all play our part to bring the country back from the egde of the precipice. No amount of hand wringing, and righteous indignation, will do anything for us.
